Id perfer the 8 ohm load bc most amps run at 8 ohms, and its safer to use a 4 ohm amp at 8 ohms then vice versa. Also i have found after some experimenting with stuff i already have that i do indeed perfer the eminence legend in this cab by a LONG shot. Wiped the floor with the altecs.

Thats how ive felt, itll make any amp 2x as loud it seems but the tone is so good

They are both 8 ohms, making a 4 ohm load.

I have the 421A speakers in this cab. After turning them up for a while, they truly are magical sounding, but i can tell the age of them and id like an 8 ohm load. Im thinking i may even just recone them and have them change it to a 16 ohm impedence so i can run the cab at 8 ohms.

Okay, so i have found with some volume the speakers really come to life. However, i still want to replace the speakers to change the impedence from 4 ohms to 8 so i can run my amps through it safely, as well as i can tell the speakers age on some lower notes as they get buzzy. I have updated the...

I do have to admit, i got to turn it up just now and it really came to life with some volume. The jbl character seemed to come out once i got the amp to about 3 and a half, it really sounded amazing. I wonder if the lack of highs was just the amp being turned down and me being used to the 10s in it.

I have a 1518 in another amp, not just laying around, sorry for the confusion. I definitely like what the 1518 does, both for clean and overdrive with every amp ive tried it with. Im using a fender super amp from 94, pretty much a 60 watt super reverb with a bassman channel.

Seems cool but i can only find them in 4 ohms, looking for 2 16 ohms so i can get an 8ohm load and run it with most amps

Odd, ive never found the emi to be a harsh speaker, its always seemed super smooth and loud to me. One of the clearest tones with a fender amp imo, with the warmth of that cab it sounds like a really big sounding pair

Am I going crazy? Or are used guitar prices plummetting in this economy?

Seems like it, im loving it. got a gibson les paul studio for 380 and a late 60s 2x15 bassman cab for 100 bucks this week.

Do you think a fullback and 1518 would be a good pairing where you said the celestion has more highs?

I think what im going to do is go with one eminence legend due to it being a personal favovite and one jbl like speaker to fill in the highs that the eminence can sometimes lack. Any recommendations for a speaker similar to a d130?

Hey yall! Im gonna start this off by saying I LOVE 15 inch speakers. I have a 1x15 bass cab with a guitar speaker in it and a vintage amp with an eminence 1518 in it. One of my favorite speakers ever. A few days ago i picked up one of those giant 2x15 bassman cabs from the late 60s for 100$ and...

Just picked this up the other day, 91 les paul studio. I cleaned it up just bc it was so dirty the finish looked matte on the head and the inlays looked orange. As i wiped it down the rag became tobacco brown. Still stinks but plays great.

Its one hell of a guitar. I got a light one, just a hair over 8 lbs, i hear a lot of people complain about 10+ pound studios.

Its alive! And talk about a natural relic, this thing is beautiful. Holding tune great considering its been in storage broken with string tension on it for what i assume was 15 years or so.

Good point. Didnt think of that, but i dont think its a major deal on this one as it was such a small crack. Id be more concerned if it was a full snapped off one

1991 gibson les paul studio repair

Hey yall! Yesterday i picked up a gibson les paul studio for 380$. Really used, crazy natural wear, and it was so cheap due to a hairline crack. I figured, "i guess ill learn to do this repair." Guy said hid uncle left it behind when he moved and told him keep it. Heres the guitar before and...
