    Sleeping

I recall reading somewhere that Einstein got at least 8 hours every night. I need at least 6.5 to be fully functional but 7 is better during the week. I'll try to get 8.5 on weekends. If I get less than 6 I have a weird thing where I sneeze a lot for the first couple of hours that I'm awake.

    Dachshund sticker shock

I paid around $600 for a purebred collie from a private breeder about 15 years ago. Have you tried looking on petfinder.com? You can put in your location and what breed you want and it will show you all of the dogs available.

Last night, I lost the best friend I've ever had.

There's nothing like the love of a loyal canine. They say that nobody is perfect. I think the reason that we outlive our dogs is because if they lived as long as us then they would be perfect.

    Quick 5F1 wiring question

The reason for the two different shades of green is because the heater power is alternating current and you want all of the heater elements in each tube to remain in phase with each other to reduce noise. The two dark green leads should already be attached to the transformer. It doesn't matter...

    The traffic cones mystery.

What do you do with the cone when you find them? I would just keep them in the garage and eventually the source will dry up. I would guess it's someone pulling a prank. When I was the bratty teenager that I despise my own kids for being, my friend and I would go out at night and move real...

    anxie-tea

I've battled anxiety for almost 30 years now. Prescription meds are the most effective thing I have found. I never got into the herbal side but there's a few over the counter things that help. The first is a magnesium supplement called "Mag Calm". It's a powder that you mix with water. Magnesium...

Do You Ever Just Look At Your Guitars?

I'll often stop while playing and admire the woodgrain on the neck of whatever guitar I'm playing. I also find myself staring at my amp while I'm playing. I guess I can see sound.

    First build finished and working!

That looks really nice! Are you sure it's your first build? 😉

Do You Leave Home Garage Open? Why?

I have my classic car and tons of tools in my garage so it stays closed. The only time I leave it open is if I'm actively working out in the yard or in the garage itself. Someone in family will occasionally forget to close it. Fortunately my opener has a wifi link and I can check the door status...

This Site Is Becoming Very Hard To Navigate

It looks "weird" right now but I'll be used to it in a few days. I remember the early days of Facebook and every time they updated it people would freak out. A lot of times these changes are dictated by the OS that they run on and are not done just for the sake of change. The factory I work in...

    The Merits of Cast Iron

I used a cast iron pan for frying chicken and pork chops at my previous house. It did seem to distribute the heat a little more evenly. My current house has a ceramic cooktop and cast iron is no bueno for those so my cast iron sits in a box somewhere.

    Favorite Cooking Show

I haven't watched cooking shows in about 30 years. I used to watch "Yan Can Cook" which has an Asian cook doing Asian and American dishes. I learned how to cut up vegetables from his show. There was also another one that I can't remember the name. He had been on the air since the early 70's and...

No more tasteful echo (opinion warning)

Not one of their strongest releases, but still a good effort by them. Oh wait, you said tasteful echo.

    ZZ TOP VS THE BOSS

I'm not a BS fan and find most of his stuff boring and repetitive, but I do like a few of his tunes. I respect ZZ Top as musicians but don't seek them out to listen to them. The thing to remember is that what YOU think of either of them doesn't mean s--t. The people buying their catalogs are...

Happy songs to help us not worry

Thanks for the reminder that the Cure can be upbeat at times too. I had forgotten all about the below hidden gem, Doing the Unstuck, from the highly-successful Wish album. I find it to be quite emotionally releasing both lyrically and musically.

Happy songs to help us not worry

Well for starters there's this cheesy AF gem that I consider to be the happiest song ever recorded:

For aircraft enthusiasts: WW2 aviation, where designers got it wrong and other disasters.

The Corsair suffered similar excessive propeller torque problems. If they used full power at take off the plane would lift off the ground and immediately go into a hard, unrecoverable roll because there wasn't enough aerodynamic force available to counteract the torque. Mixing cannons and...

Never give up on your dreams!

Isn't there a longstanding debate out on the interwebs over whether Die Hard is a Christmas movie or not?

Want to send a guitar to someone who lost theirs during the tornado in Kentucky, but don't know how.

First of all, what an incredibly kind and generous thing to do! I vacation at Kentucky Lake and just called my favorite place down there and they said Murray wasn't hit. I agree with the sentiments that you might want to wait a bit until people have a place to stay at again. I also wonder if...

Looking for Project on a Budget

I did a Princeton build this past spring and absolutely loved it. I was wanting to follow up this winter with an 18W TMB Marshall but my financial picture isn't quite as bright so I need to hold off on that. But I still have the urge to build and miss the smell and sound of sizzling solder flux...

I've wondered about that. When I pull up to a good BBQ place I expect to smell some smoke.

    Favorite Food

I was just diagnosed with gastroesophageal reflux disease and possible lactose intolerance. I can't do tomato sauce or cheese anymore so pizza is now off the menu. I still love a rare slab of strip steak with a touch of seasoning and salted to taste. A grilled chunk of fish is a close second...
