    Fret Polishing

I'm a total beginner at any kind of proper maintenance. I bought a Jim Dunlop fingerboard care kit, for my rosewood fretboard. Came with cleaner, conditioner and a cloth. It also hade a micro fine fret polishing cloth. On the back it says 8000. It feels pretty smooth! I polished the frets by...

    NGD American Professional

New arrival! 2017 model in excellent condition. Have an American Standard with a maple board and had a hankering for a rosewood board strat. I love a sunburst strat too. I'd tried a pro in the shop and loved the neck. I thought maybe I wouldn't like the deeper C as I don't get on with chunkier...

    Nitro Touch-up Advice

I think mines is similar - not through to wood but through a tinted layer into a clear coat underneath maybe?

    Nitro Touch-up Advice

Thanks! I know it's not great visually but to the hand - you'd never know there was a repair at all, just as smooth as the rest of the neck, so I think I'll call it quits at that, can totally live with the look of it, especially in that spot. I can't see any defects at all really! Looks great...

    Nitro Touch-up Advice

First attempt at this, so pretty amateur looking. But where it is I think I probably get away with it? Main thing is its nice and smooth and shiny..tried to show that in the light...

    Nitro Touch-up Advice

Agreed, smooth will do me! Think my main worry now is sanding right through it and/or taking of nearby good finish. So gently does it I think! I have 8 grits ranging from 1800 to12000

    Nitro Touch-up Advice

OK, so I've now painted it. Unfortunately, the Amber tint is much darker than my neck. It that might be ok given when it is. I've painted it on as thin as I could. And it's not very smooth so when it's dry I will buff it up smooth and shiny (hopefully!). With it being thin there's not much to...

    Nitro Touch-up Advice

And if I make a mistake, can the nitro be removed with nail polish remover? (Sure i heard this once) But would it also remove the poly?

    Nitro Touch-up Advice

This is the area here...not in a very noticeable place, so I'm not looking for complete perfection but I will try my best! Thanks for all the advice! Does anyone have tips for sanding it down after it's applied and dried? It's quite an awkward bit the way it's shaped here. Kinda worried about...

    Nitro Touch-up Advice

I've got a poly neck and In want to touch up a little area that has some damage. For this I bought 50ml neat nitro - it was the best I could find, amber tinted do I think it'll do a decent enough job (not looking for perfection). I have no experience, but I've always heard that nitro is a...

Thanks for all the advice, was annoyed with myself...hardly rubbed it at all, but there you go!

Accidentaly Removed Tinted Finish From Neck...

Thanks! Problem is I don't think I'm through to bare wood. Even though it looks like it is. Tru oil wouldn't take to a clear poly if thats what it is would it? Maybe if need to take it down to the wood for it to take?

Accidentaly Removed Tinted Finish From Neck...

Yeah its smooth now at least! I don't think I'm through to bare wood so maybe there is a clear coat under the tinted one and that's I'm through to.

Accidentaly Removed Tinted Finish From Neck...

So my guitar had a scrape, no idea what happened - in a strange place. Probably happened at a gig. Anyway it was kinda rough so I just wanted to smooth it out. I took to it with micromesh paper. And I'm an idiot as I've took the tinted finish off. It must have been so so thin at this part...

    NGD - Baja 60s Telecaster

Really grown on me! Especially after oiling.

    NGD - Baja 60s Telecaster

Its the other specs and quality, yeah. For the price the build is excellent. It's vintage styled which I like, but with a more modern radius and medium jumbo frets. So it's a great combination of features. Great pickups on a Mexican guitar too. The neck on this is really nothing like the 50s...

    NGD - Baja 60s Telecaster

Lemon oil and to my eyes the fretboard already looks much better? Looks darker. Still a streaky piece but I don't mind it now at all. Don't think it was cared for, covered in dust etc. The fact it's not been played much is to my be benefit though! No fretwear I can identify. No damage to speak...

    NGD - Baja 60s Telecaster

You're right, no harm in leaving the 4 way. I dont think I'll ever use the s1 though. But you know, maybe I'll just leave it for now too. Mint guitar seems to be quite popular, I just thought white would contrast better with the faded sonic blue. Maybe itll grow on me as it is though .

    NGD - Baja 60s Telecaster

I had a 50s before but the neck was way too chunky for me. Anyway I fancied trying a 60s and the necks great, much more to my taste. I've ordered a white scratchplate, I'm not keen on the mint one. Think white will contrast better. It badly needs a set-up. The action is so low its very...

    American Pro 2020 Body Wood

Im looking at a used American Professional from 2020. Butterscotch Blonde. I can't find our for sure what the body wood is. Currently they are roasted pine but I'm not sure what was used in 2020? Zoomed in on sellers photo in case it helps...

Anyone successfully (or Happy) found an affordable/cheap Slope Shoulder (J45) acoustic?

Yeah I find a lot of manufacturers do this with wording, it reads: "solid spruce top and mahogany back and sides". So they say solid before spruce top but not before mahogany....which I'm pretty sure means "not solid mahogany". So I'm fairly confident it's solid top and laminate back and sides...

Anyone successfully (or Happy) found an affordable/cheap Slope Shoulder (J45) acoustic?

I've owned a Guild DS-240 for a few years now and I'm delighted with it. It's very affordable, I recommend checking it out at least. I changed the pickguard to give it more of the J-45 look (but the original was OK tbh)...

    Road Worn (2021) Neck

Wow I think I've just improved the feel of this neck massively! The comments about fine sandpaper/scotchbrite pads etc. got me thinking - I have some micro mesh paper. I got it for a repair I done to the finish of another guitar, so I hadn't thought of using it on wood. Anyway - the range I have...

    Road Worn (2021) Neck

Not totally bonding with my new road worn neck, its maybe a little chunky for my taste but I could adapt to that however: the bare wood on the back of the neck is a little dry and rough feeling - like I can feel wood fibres. It'll maybe always be like that or simply playing it will resolve...
