I think I figured out my EJ Strat issue

Hi all, Just an observation. Been struggling with the EJ Stratocaster and I think I know why. I find that my EJ Strat is on the dark side, I mean compared to my ‘52 Tele and American Strat. Am starting to think it is because of the speakers he uses. I have an Eminence EJ1250, alnico. It is a...

Does hz Current difference affect my amp in any way?

Hi Bebopbrain, Thanks. Will be traveling soon. The destination country has 50hz. I would now consider bringing one of my amps there since my Fender is 230v at 50hz and the country I am going to is Vietnam. Same exact ratings. Now out of curiosity, if my amp had a requirement of 230v at 60hz...

Does hz Current difference affect my amp in any way?

Hi all, Just a quick question. I just noticed that my Bassman has a power input requirement of 230v at 50hz. The country where I am at provides 220v at 60hz. Is there a problem with the differences in current? Thanks in advance!

Hi all! Just a quick question. Wanted to ask, which direction do I turn the bias to get the tubes colder/warmer? Thanks! Loren

Bassman jumpered compression and headroom question

Hey Ballynally2, I have tried both 5751 and 12ay7. Have NOS Sylvania 5751. The 12ay7 I didn’t care for but the 5751’s were nice. But I still preferred the 12ax7. Happy with the Tungsol 12ax7 in v1

    Pickups replacement questions

Hi, Just curious, an in general question. When pickups for a Strat are replaced, are the pickup wires normally cut to a desired or ideal length or are they usually not cut and just installed? Do replacing pots and controls matter too? Or just replacing pickups is fine? Thanks. Loren

Eric Johnson first Strat series vs Virginia

I have the first generation EJ Strat (2006) and love the guitar. I've added a treble bleed circuit, and most recently a Callahan bridge, as the high E was getting to close to the edge of the fret board. The Callahan bridge made a big difference. Really like it ( although not cheap by bridge...

Maybe you can add a shimmy and see if that helps?

Eric Johnson first Strat series vs Virginia

Hi Sloppychops, I noticed the nut was low for me. Another thing that I noticed with my EJ, it had a lot of bass. Being decked, having a lot of bass, I had mine set up to floating to minimize the bass side. Only using 3 springs now. To my ears, it worked. Less bass, more mids. Another benefit...

Good point. Maybe why I switched back to non noiseless. Maybe I should have gone Kinman.

Eric Johnson first Strat series vs Virginia

Oh and I do agree, the EJ is the best production Strat by Fender. The 2nd best is my American Original 50’s in white, ash bodied. Where the EJ is muscular and balanced, my AO50 is airy and blooms. Love them both. I don’t need anymore Strats 😊 The EJ though has the best 2nd and 4th positions. The...

Eric Johnson first Strat series vs Virginia

The one mod I did do is the nut. When I got the guitar, the nut was low. Couldn’t bend the B string, 3rd fret. So I ordered a bone nut from Fender as per spec. Weird they sent me a plastic nut. Well, I said if I was going to experiment, I may as well try Tusq (which worked for my Martin...

Eric Johnson first Strat series vs Virginia

Woke up at 2am. Played a few notes. I can describe my EJ in 3 words. Muscular, balanced and woody. Am not a Strat guy. Am really a Tele guy. Still having a hard time playing or adjusting to a Strat and I have had the EJ for many years. Mainly because my right hand is confused where to rest on...

Eric Johnson first Strat series vs Virginia

Hi Brookdalebill, Thank you for sharing your incredible story! What an experience! I guess that was what I was looking for. That made me pick up my EJ and play a few notes and smile 😊 Thank you! Loren

Eric Johnson first Strat series vs Virginia

Yup. Hoping to get a preference or an impression by anyone who has tried or has both, one over the other and why? Purely subjective of course. Also the sassafraz is intriguing. Have not played a Virginia yet. Thanks!

Eric Johnson first Strat series vs Virginia

Hi all, Just wanted to ask. I have the first series EJ Strat. I know the specs of that guitar and the Virginia. For those who have tried both, which do you prefer? Alder vs sassafras, huge difference? Both plugged and unplugged? Is the Virginia closer to AVM or both can get you there? Love my...

Bassman jumpered compression and headroom question

Hi Charlie Chitlin, Ahh. The last time I used my Bassman in a gig was a so long ago I cannot remember and the last time I jumpered it was longer than that. I do remember my friend telling me to put more treble. Adding treble at the time did add life at that gig. At the time, I just thought it...

    Bassman sounding off. Help

Hi guys, I have a tech coming in for a home visit next week to put some speakers into my Suhr cab. Will have him show me what you guys have told me. If it does end up 220v is the best, my question is, with less power, the amp may sound different. But since I would be using a voltage regulator...

    Bassman sounding off. Help

Hi all, Stepped out for a little bit to take the dog to the vet. Loss of appetite. Want to make sure he is ok and not just assume he is being picky with what he is eating. I hope the vet doesn’t recommend braces! :) Back home and tried the amp again. Wall voltage is down to 230v now. After...
