    NAD--Origin 50

Just got a Marshall Origin 50, and I am very pleased with it. It sounds sounds awesome. I was a little worried about it being too loud, based on some of the reviews and forum comments. It's not too loud for me, primary because I prefer using a pedalboard into a clean amp. I was playing with my...

What do y'all think of this one?

1965 Fender Telecaster - Blonde Looks too good to be true to me. It's supposed to be a 1965, but it's got no fretboard wear. Very little paint...

    To good to be true

I snapped up a deal last night on Reverb - a Vox AC4-C1-12 for just over $200. I always like to pay 50 percent of the new price on used gear, so this was a really good price. To good to be true, because this morning I got a notification that my money was refunded. Looks like it was priced...

    Trem cover/no cover, new build

Hey players, I am contemplating adding a trem cover to my new build. It would be walnut to match the control cover. Would you do the trem cover or leave it off? Guitar will be deep mahogany red.

    Is.My Neck too stiff?

I am making a neck from hard maple. I was cooking along, but when it was time to level the frets I got very little movement out of the neck. It's a dual action truss rod, and tge difference between maxed to the left and maxed to the right was minimal. I turned the nit to zero, removed the...

Why is there always one time in the slot cleaning process where the tool gets away from me? I try using two hands at all times, but sometimes I just forget. I hate it when stuff like this happens.

    Dots or not?

What is your opinion on a guitar with no fret markers, only side dots? How much do you rely on the fret markers to navigate the fretboard? This is a new build with a ziricote fingerboard. It has a nice grain pattern. I am considering leaving the fret markers off, but I also want it to be...

    Can't be fixed

My wife asks me to fix something for her. It takes about a minute. I return and tell her, "It can't be fixed." "Why not?" she asks, clearly concerned. "'Cause it's not broken anymore." Understandably, she's confused. "What the heck are you talking about?" "I fixed it. It's not broken. Can't fix...

    Two point tremolo template

Does anyone have a drawing of the routing layout for the American Series two point tremolo? I can't justify spending 30-60 bucks. Let me know please and thank you.

You just have to laugh sometimes

Just when it seemed the USPS was started to improve, this. I really like a certain luthier supply house in Philadelphia. That said, when I placed an order back in November I ran into some difficulty with their local post office. It took six weeks for that order to arrive first class. I placed...

    Longer cases?

I have an issue with handmade guitars I didn't anticipate. On one guitar, tge headstock is about an inch or so longer than most. It barely fits in my gig bag. The other guitar has an extra long upper horn. It's about five inches longer than a strat. It won't fit my gig bag or hard case. Does...

    Get a belt sander

I just did a preliminary shaping on a nut, and it brought to mind how I used to toil over my leveling beam to work nuts. It took an hour to do what I accomplished in five minutes. If you don't have a benchtop belt sander and you want to do this sort of work, save your muscles and get one.

    I Hate My Local News

So I'm watching the news tonight and they cut to a man on the street interview to get public opinion on a matter of national concern. So they cut to this woman. They never explain why she has tinfoil on her head. They just treat it like it was nothing. Sheesh. I gotta move out of here.

Just got a Vick Audio Overdriver. It's a reproduction of the Coloursound Power Boost, famously played by David Gilmour and others. It's a low to mid gain overdrive with active eq. Unlike the original, it has a volume knob. I play through a Vox AC-10. It doesn't sound like the old Pink Floyd...

    I must say....

I'm pleased with my new build, once the kinks have been worked out. I call it the Boehm Double Edge. It had Lindy Fralin stock P90s in it and CTS 500k pots. There was something off with it. It played nice and felt good in my hand but the tone wasn't 100 percent. So I replaced the A4 magnets...

    Anyone Swear By Compensated Nuts?

I'm getting near the end of a neck build, and I'm toying with the idea of a compensated nut. I'd probably get an Earvana, but I may try making one myself. I see this.guy on YouTube who uses them all the time, like every time he replaces one. Anyone use them or made them? What is your experience...

New pedal day reissued. I just got an old favorite pedal today. I had the JHS Panther Cub a few years back but sold it on my quest for super delays. Now the sweet modulated analog is playing in tandem with digital delay for complex rhythms.

    Holy Cow--Three Day Priority Mail

Could be the logjam is breaking. I ordered something from Pittsburgh on Saturday, and now, Monday I checked the status. I was expecting it to be just going in the mail today I was surprised to find it's at my local post office. That's three days for Priority Mail! I haven't seen that since 1 BC...

    Do scallops weaken the neck?

Random thought. It seems that deep scallops in a fretboard must have some effect on neck stability. Compound the scallops with the slim neck profiles preferred by players most likely to have a scalloped fretboard, surely that neck must be like a longbow. If one were to engineer such a neck...

    Where the Bigsbys

For several weeks I have been looking at Reverb for a Bigsby B5. I just don't see many, and today, none. And very few 50s and 500s. What's the deal? Anyone know about this?

CS Prestige Line, is it just me?

Or is this year's Custom Shop Prestige Line the ugliest bunch of guitars you ever saw?

    Volume pot head-scratcher

Here's a weird one. I have Lindy Fralin P90s in my new build. When I turn the volume down, it drops incredibly fast right away. 9 is significantly lower than 10, and it's not usable past 7. It's totally off by 2. This happens on both pickups regardless of where the tone is set. It's wired in...

Anyone else try this Mexican hardwood? I was drawn to the figuring posted on the StewMac site. Looks good, right? Then I checked out some production guitars that use it. Pretty cool, right? So I bought two slotted fretboards. In both, the grain was straighter than I hoped. The wood is...

    Any love for 60's wiring?

I never tried it that I can remember, but Dirk Wacker says it's tonally just like the modern wiring but with better shielding. He says interference picked up by the pickups is shunted to ground before going to the cap. I'm no engineer, but some of you no doubt are. What do you think? Don't say...

    What gear came back?

I just bought an MXR Timmy. I had a real Timmy years ago, but sold it when prices went up. I missed that sound snd decided to get it back. I had an MIM strat. After playing it several years, I modded with Seymour Duncan humbuckers. I got tired of it and sold it off to buy an amp. Not long after...
