I like a linear for volume and audio for tone.
The white wire (input from the volume pot) is connected to the ground lug on your switch. Try swapping the black and white wires.
@moosie you are correct, this is exactly how the volume pot reacted in position 1.
So it's late and I quickly wired up just positions 1 and 2 on my 3-way switch and it's a no go. Volume pot still works on the straight to jack...
