That looks fantastic, I really like how you get the details of the headstock shape so right.
On a strat I like it and use it a lot, on a Tele I like the sound of the two P-ups in the middle position.

Yes it is throught the finish down to the wood. It's your typical Fender 62 RI P Bass Maple / rosewood finger board. It will need some sanding...

With the 1500.00 get an AV 57 or 62 P..... I would save a few bucks and get a used one for more like $900-1100 and you'll have a great bass.
