Graph Tech makes a Tusq nut that is good for either situation. If it is radius, you file the middle tab out, if flat you leave it in.
A tusq nut might work without filing the nut slots but you will likely need to sand the height (from the bottom of the nut) and/or the thickness....

For me it is the perfect Fender neck. It's just right.
Teles are pretty bright if you run them wide open. That is why volume and tone knobs were created, to tame the brightness when you need to.
