  • Hey, I really enjoy your posts about speakers.
I really love Fenders with Oxford speakers, but I am not having good luck at having my 12T6 re-coned. In your opinion, what's the closest new speaker to the Oxfords? I am very curious about the JS-1250 - how does it compare? Or if you have any re-cone shop recommendations?
Any thoughts you care to share would be much appreciated!
    Thanks,
    G

Hey GFrank! I haven't run across any new production speakers that sound like the 12T6 I have. I do like the JS1250, but it is not really the same as an Oxford. For the re-cone on mind, I used Millersound in Lansdale, PA, and they did a great job. I don't know of anyone locally, unless Charlie Harris (the amp tech who lives in the Jasper, TN, area) still does it.

I'm sorry that I can't point you to something like the Oxford that is new production. Though Weber Speakers often markets their new speakers as clones of old models, I have generally found that they are much too loud for my tastes. I hope that helps!

Thanks for the info! So did you settle on the JS-1250 for your DR? How would you describe the differences between the JS-1250 and the TF-1250? Which one is closer to an Oxford?
Hey, I recently came across a Mitchell Luna tube amp Tweed Princeton 5f2a clone .
I live in Chattanooga I believe it could possibly be your build based off the pictures. I had a few questions for you if it is your build . What is the wattage I was told it was a 11 or 12 watt amp but didn't seem that loud. Thank you in advance if you get the chance to respond..:)

Hey Wme07 - Somehow I'm not seeing this message until now -- almost three years later! So sorry! I didn't build the Mitchell Luna tube amp you referenced. Again, I'm very sorry I didn't see this years ago!

    Cheers!
Hey, I'd be glad to pass along any info I can give you or build a cab for you. I build a good many cabs every year, but I don't want to violate any kind of forum "vendor" rules because I don't do enough of it to be worth any kind of ad fee. I'm actually about to start on a Princeton soon. I love the things.

Cool. Thanks. I'd love to get the dimensions, if you have designs for a narrow-panel 5f2a. I'm going to put a 10" baffle in there. But I'm also curious as to what you might charge if you did build one. It could just be unfinished pine with a birch ply baffle (or even without one).
