  • Sorry for the super brief message. I only had 420 characters to use! This is an AB763 build, 1 channel with no tremolo. My other option is a Hammond 1760E, 15 watt, 8.5k with 4,8 or 16 secondaries. I could mismatch an 8 ohm speaker on the 4 ohm tap to get 17k reflected load which is lower than ideal I believe for 6G6G, though I see you have run 6AK6 with a 16k primary. Thanks again!

I used the P-P version and it has a higher 3 dB down point which would say it rolls off the bass. I did not hear much in the way of loss. Maybe I do not have a discerning ear, I have no problems with the Hammond transformers.

That's good to hear thanks. I also saw some comments from people suggesting the 125 (PP) series sounded a bit harsh particularly when overdriven, or I guess when pushed into saturation.
That could always be just one person's opinion though in a less than ideal circuit. Do you ever recall the 125E sounding particularly harsh?
Hi, hoping you could help with your Hammond 125E experience. I'm planning a build using 6V6 and 6G6G (almost identical to 6AK6). I'm planning on a 125E to get correct primary impedance for both tube types but I've heard some say it lacks bass and can sound a bit harsh (I'm not sure how true this is or if it's a bit overstated and I shouldn't worry). How have you found the 125E? Is it a good OPTX? Thanks so much! Dale
