in EL34 / 6CA7's i'm very interested in reliable sourcing of RFT's, Matsushita, The Russian NOS stuff mentioned, Svetlana variants and anything else sonically cool....still doing a lot reading on these histories and sounds
Seems like there are tons and tons of RFT tubes all about Europe.
Many...
Was wondering about the Coin base / Wafer base tubes...was GE the only maker of these?
What's the general take on these out there?
Do they sound as good as large base tubes?
Are they fragile in any way?
Great stuff.thanks..
Im still learning the variants of EL34 Soviet stuff..
I've got a pair of matched TAD 6L6 in one amp..they sound fine..no real complaints
Im indefinitely interested in longevity in this search..but also of course interested in marked tonal/sound variations..
I've never...
...which EL34's and 6L6's are you folks liking?
mainly interested in power tube
chatter..6V6's maybe should be in here but I just bought a nice quad of matchy Sylvania
chrome domes so im sorta set for a few....minutes.
I do consider, in the El34 area, clean tones as well..my only EL34 amp is...
hi dark,
was going through that actually as your post came in yesterday..didnt really make a difference..at first i thought it did..then i didn't think it did...placebo sorta effect getting me
Removing the p.i. was the only thing that killed the hiss..but it seems like removing the p.i. just...
yea, no...the PR has stock values all through, straight up cap can.. except for what the tech i calls, i think "the 50 cent mod" that makes the tremolo a little bit deeper..and a bias pot added..
I've got other amps tho and have been asked this during recaps..A deluxe i have was bumped up in...
As far as i know the recap was done to spec..I always ask the tech i use to keep it proper in spec numbers and proper to the era caps..for what that's worth.
Seems like a lot of techs these days want to bump the filter cap values a bit?
I've encountered that quite a bit.
Did that first off..and turned off all dimmers and other stuff in the area..
no change..steady sound that is there with volume on zero..nothing really makes it change..
I did pull the phase inverter and yes, the snow goes away..
It's been serviced, yes..recapped including filter caps..
a while back i was chopsticking the circuit and noticed a bit of this same noise
in a reaction at the plate resistors..
That is for sure..i think the legends just grew from the aberrations that can happen with a number of old parts going out slightly out of spec..
I've had two amps that i fell in love with right away that had original parts all through them when i bought em..one was Princeton Reverb that had a...
Morn,
My 69 Vibrolux was acting perfectly, super quiet..sounding great..
I turned it on the other day and im getting a white noise, hissy, snowy..tiny bit of crackle
but not suoer pronounced or loud crackle..it's mostly snowy noise, consistent
The amps does this with no guitar plugged into it...
it's just odd to me that so many of the answers on the web are all over the place as to what these caps actually are made of..lots of times when someone does try to provide an answer to the question the answer is preceded by "they are most likely some type of...", or, "i think they are..."
why...
