    Help me country

:) I mean...everyone keeps telling me there are many (very distinct and different sounding) subgenres of country. What would you call this one? As a country noob I'd be tempted to call it Black Country, but I'm a pretty big noob.

Me either, TBH....he always struck me as basically Arena Rock in a Stetson.

Totally respect that, and no...that's not what I'm after. I'm not even sure who I'd be trying to fake my authenticity to...the vast majority of my playing is for myself anyway. It does take a lot of time and a lot of work...as well as making sure you're not being too narrow in what you absorb...

And if I'd said "teach me country" (or something similar) outside the title of the thread, I'd totally get where you're coming from. I guess...I thought I was pretty clear what my intentions were and what that road looked like. If not, that's cool....but I'll admit it's a little disappointing...

    Help me country

Yes. Which is why I said "listening and playing". What you describe is precisely my intent. :) But (also like "rock"), it's a huge umbrella, and some starting points are appreciated. It would be different if I'd been listening to it (even casually) my whole life...I'd at least have a starting...

    Help me country

Because not everybody is this way. I've learned a ton as a musician...particularly as a composer...from listening to music I hate. I can't stand listening to Phillip Glass, but I recognize the innovations he was chasing, and I've learned a ton from listening to and studying his work. It also...

    Help me country

That's fair...I guess I tend to lump LRR in with Dead Flowers and the like. To the point you made later, there's a lot of bleed over. To me (someone who does listen to a lot of blues, and basically no country), it comes off with a very country flavor....but that could be my lack of familiarity...

    Help me country

Alright, folks, I need some help, and figure there are people here who can direct me. I want to start learning and playing some country. I've never really listened to country...I've always been a rock/hard rock/metal guy (or classical/orchestral); grew up with the Stones, Queen, and Zeppelin...

Christmas Guitar pics ... Show em

It's a disease....SG GAS is the worst strain of GAS. I was never an SG guy either...or even a Gibson-style guy period...until my wife bought me the '61 Maestro below. Both the body profile and the playability are such a great combination of sexy and mean. I only have 2 so far...and they're...

I like my Tele, but I won't lie...I'm a total sucker for an SG.

Birthday, actually, so a couple of weeks ago...but according to my wife it's close enough to also count as Christmas:

    Your pick pickiness

So, coming back to this after a few weeks of it, and man, do I wish I'd tried this like 10 years ago. For economy picking, it's a serious game-changer.

All your guitars are destroyed ... you have 2000$

Clarifying question: My wife and I share instruments to a large degree....do we get 2 grand each, or total?

All your guitars are destroyed ... you have 2000$

2 grand would be just about enough to get: A Schecter C-1 A MIM Tele (probably a Player) An Epi SG Whatever combination of new or used allows me to put together that starting stable.

Would you buy this cheap guitar?......

This. I'd say no for the same reason I wouldn't go hang out at the bar with any of y'all...because I have to. OP, I don't know you well enough to say whether your GAS cycle would go exactly like Happy Enchilada described, but from what you've said regarding your conversation with the shop...
