Don't worry, in a few years a chip will be able to be planted into your body so you don't need an external device.

Yes, and there will be sensors on your face that take in all visual data and send it directly to your brain for real-time playback and storage in memory.

Waitaminnit....

Their only concern is their IP. As if anyone can make any money reselling their 30 year old songs.

One fan at Monday’s concert, Andy Flink, was particularly incensed. He paid mightily for a pair of floor tickets and was aggrieved by the band’s policies, which he wished he had known about before buying his tickets. Fink said if he had known in advance, there was “no way” he would have spent $700 on tickets.

Flink said that he was reprimanded by an usher – who, it should be noted, was only following the rules established by the band – for opening his phone during the show to check if his babysitter had texted him.

“How many of the 20,000 people who attended have kids, elderly parents, concerns that they must remain attached to?” Flink noted in an email he sent me (he’s given permission that I use his information).

Flink also wished that a “fan advisory” emailed Monday morning had mentioned the phone ban or the “no standing unless we say it’s OK” rule that the Eagles employed. The advisory did state that “photography (including cell phone photography), audio and video recording are not permitted. Please leave all cameras, tablets and audio or video recorders at home.”

If you go to the "Irving, Glenn & Don Show" you take what they give you.

And be grateful for it.

The guy above is angry that he didn't know about the ban and if he did he wouldn't have spent the $350 per ticket.

Which infers, of course , that besides that he didn't have a problem with spending that much on these gentleman and their sidemen.

I'm seeing splits of bad champagne, dressy jeans, a rose for his lady, and telling tales of seeing these country rock "pioneers" back in high school w/ his buddy Dave.

I got nothin' else

But, if people didn't record live shows and post them on YouTube, how could I watch them for free? I don't want to have to buy a ticket or a DVD. I want it for nothing.
Also, I don't want to be surrounded by other people when I watch a concert. I want to watch it at home by myself, and for free.

I can understand cellphones and flash photography being really annoying to the band and the audience and I understand that video can harm the band's potential income from future concerts but if someone is taking still photos without the flash I can't see why the musicians would be upset and/or ban it outright.
I once was at a Nanci Griffith concert outdoors at a winery during the day. She made it a point to stop the show and publically belittle an older guy who was a reasonable distance from the front of the stage taking still photos. She got (in my opinion) real nasty verbally to the guy and although I really like her music, she lost a bunch of 'likability' points with me that day.

.

They want to control their image, a lot of them don't look so good 5 songs into a set when the make-up starts melting away under the lights. They want the public to see them as they want to be seen.

From what I have seen, a lot of pros who shoot concerts at the band's request, only shoot the first two-three songs at most.

There has to be a technology that will make a cell phone camera useless .
A light wavelength or something .
Since no one is interested in the music any more , there is no need to block that .

If we didn't know about the Eagles' infighting/corporate love/ego trips,we would appreciate them as the great band they have maintained over all these years.
Has there been unfairness?Probably.Has there been inequality?Hah.Egos?....pleeeeeeze.But......
Sometimes putting out books and documentaries make us get inside the internal fray instead of appreciating great tunes.

I'm with the band on this one.
Smart phones have invaded our society like kudzu and the over dependence on them has evolved beyond the point of annoying to diluting the enjoyment by many of literally every public event and gathering.
We USED to be able to drive all the way across town without a phone tethered to our bodies. We USED to be able to be away from home for a trip to the store, or for a few hours without having to check in with someone or update our movements. And we USED to be able to enjoy a concert or a movie without the nuisance of smart phone screens distracting us.
Now, we tolerate the distraction in our concert halls, churches, movie theaters, offices,
on our highways, and even at family gatherings where family members are face planted in their phones instead of actually conversing with other family members.
Compliments to Don Henley and crew. The rest of the concert industry, and movie industry, should follow their lead and not only prohibit the use of electronic devices during the event, but prohibit them from being brought into the venue to begin with. At least someone is taking a stand. Hats off to those who say Enough is enough.

Same goes for $700 concert tickets - enough is enough.

I saw Jack White play in Toronto last year. Before the show one of the road crew came out (as usual dressed in a suit with a bowler hat) and politely asked that the audience keep their phones in their pockets to increase the enjoyment of the concert. He told us that Jack would have a photographer on the stage and that all of the photos would be available for download the next day. Sure enough the photographer was busy taking photos the whole show. It didn't stop everyone from annoyingly holding up their phone for an extended time, but it definitely cut back on it.

I dislike intensely anyone who tries to control my actions... no matter what. I couldn't sit through an Eagles show anyway.
+1 I'll save the exorbitant ticket fee and use my phone when I want.

Anyway, my understanding is about half of the music presented by the Eagles as "live" at their concerts is pre-recorded.

Besides, they should stop worrying about fans taking a little souvenir video and start crediting Jethro Tull for Hotel California:)

I think their first four albums were great, but I stopped caring about their current offerings when they threw Felder under the bus.

Taken with my phone at a recent concert. We were front row balcony so it didn't bother a soul.

Ticket price = $18.00 :)

i love the smug attitude from the writer who, of course, has a legit reason to use his phone. because he is so special.
"Yes, I have used my phone during shows because my editor likes me to send out a tweet or two during the event. I do my job and then I put the phone away and return to taking notes on a pad. But that’s me."
isnt that precious?

$700 to see the Eagles? thats the first failboat.

"Please remain seated?" yeah um no. Its a rock concert.

No recording or picture taking Im fine with, but no cell phones at all? Sorry aint happening. You can groan all you want about the good ol days of yore when "nobody needed a cellphone" the only reason people werent glued to their phones "back-in-da-day" is because they werent invented yet.

what did people do before cell phones when they had kids left at home? They worried for 2 hours, half enjoying the show, the other half worried.

there are plenty of reasons why people need their phones kept on that have nothing to do with taking pics, or videos or playing angry birds. the writer mentioned one: people working the show. Another one is Doctors on call. Another one is expecting mothers at home or in the hospital. Joe Walsh is cool and all but missing your first borns birth to hear "hotel?" not worth it. Parents with kids at home and a new sitter, thats enough reason too. then there are a the emergency apps that tell you your car has been stolen, your house has been broken into, your streets are flooding, etc;

the genie is out of the bottle-deal with it in a reasonable manner. Dont be a douche, man.

Thanks again surf. ^

Personally, it has nothing to do with phones. It's the owners & their inability to reign it in, not just at a damn Eagles show. I go to a show, I'm watching the players.
