Well, I am in the market for some Zebra humbuckies for LP std.

Not wanting over the top in your face slash type, but, good punchy, sounds like
    a LP should. (w/zebras)

I saw some old 59 and 58 tributes by various mfg...as well as Pearly.

Have zinc covered in other guitars, so this is my zebra pack a punch Paul.

Maybe I should split open an old 70s Ttop I have stored away. Maybe I wouldnt wreck it.

    Thanks for ideas.

I'm a big fan of the plain ol' Duncan '59 set, especially with 4-wire for splitting and phase reverse - Pagey kinda stuff.

Duncan's Saturday Night Special set is supposed to be more '70s than '59 sounding. I have a friend who has a set in an SG and really likes them. I assume they come in zebra.

    Love Zebra!

    Love T Tops!

    Options...

    Cheap... Tonerider

Expensive... Bare Knuckle ‘Rebel Yell’ - these of mine are getting swapped Saturday back into a Lester. PAF with attitude.

My best pickup in the herd is a mid 80’s SD JB though.. really sings.

I forgot I can't get 2 creams, since that is patented by DiMarzio.
I wonder what is under my Ttop.
    Zebra or all Black ??

I bought Alnico 2, a zebra and a double cream for a Hamer a few months ago from Guitar Madness. Haven't installed them yet... I need to do that!

I hear you, I have like, 3 or 4 sets of pickups I've never heard because they sit in the drawer, some for years now.

2 Seymour offerings to check out are the 78's and the Whole Lotta Humbucker.
As others have mentioned the SD 59 or Pearly Gates, Gibby 57 classics or Burstbuckers and the Dimarzio 36 Anniversary PAF.

Burstbucker 2s are good for PAFy tones. Cheap on Fleabay. 3s are harder sounding.

Go on ebay and look for the zebra pickups that are in the $15/set range. No branding and resold from the factory by many different and changing sellers, so you need to look at the construction photo details. Often 8kohm to 12/14kohm in the set. The ones in the Explorer on the left here. I've had offers to buy that guitar because they wanted the sound of the pickups.

These look like one of the sellers, for $14/set. You'll be able to find more sellers too.

I like these because they measure half the internal capacitance of 'the usual suspects' in these kinds of which pickups should I get threads. This is the same trend of boutique hand-scatter-wound pickups. Yes, ceramic magnets so just set them lower from the strings than you might usually.

High internal capacitance = darker/muddy pickups, lower = brighter, clearer notes.

The Red/Black zebra in the LP Junior is the same factory, but 16kohms. I dismantled it so I could split the coil to single for 8kohm Tele/P90 tones. It gets played the most of the whole set here on the wall and more than the fancy guitar brands in the fleet.

The EMG Retroactive series come in zebra, they really don't sound EMGish at all, great pickups.

I got a JB/Jazz combo in zebra/reverse-zebra for extra stripey-ness. They're decent, but not my favourite humbuckers.
