    Hi Folks,

i would like to hear, whats the expert opinion is. I have some serious doubt about the authenticity of this telecaster „custom shop“. There is mo SN number on the neck visible. And the neck palte says Fender Corona Cali ?!

    Greetings Marc

This guitar could be anything. The "Custom Shop" decal , neckplate , all easily available on Ebay for about $20. I have a Squier Tele that looks identical. Is there layers of finish over the Fender decals? Or just cheap waterslide decals? Any of the hardware say Fender? The custom shop Tele's I just looked up had the "CustomShop" logo engraved on the Bridge. No serial number is a huge red flag , in my view. If there is no provenence on this instrument , if you don't know it's history or where it's from , well , you take your chances as far as resale value. I wouldn't buy it. A lot of counterfeit ,mis-represented guitars for sale out there...

None of the logos even look the right thickness etc and the "custom shop" font/logo too big imo

    1. Truss rod hole looks plastic.
    2. Also looks like grain on the back of headstock was not filled. I can't imagine CS would do that.
    3. 12th fret markers are pretty widely spaced, too.
    4. Trapezoidal tuning knobs aren't on any of the CS tele's on their website, either.
    5. String thru bushings look like the wrong size,
    6. Browsing the CS site, only the John 5 CS tele has 6 saddle bridge.
    7. What's a COUNTUR body, by the way? Maybe Fender had a typo in that batch of decals?
    8. No quotes " around Telecaster.

Honestly, I don't know much about CS guitars, maybe they are allowed to deviate.:D

#7 is hilarious. If they can't get the spelling right on a decal, the counterfeiters just aren't trying hard enough!

What I can find in a couple of books indicate something smelling very bad in Denmark. I would pass sir.

That decal appears to have been made by someone unfamiliar with the English language IMHO. Just Sayin'

Even if "Countur" was spelled correctly, the body isn't contoured anyway. There are so many things wrong about that guitar, it would take a while to list them. Stay far, far, far away from it....

That may be the least convincing fake I've seen here. So bad, it's funny.

Looks fake to me. It's a tele for sure, but not a CS one.

Exactly what I was going to say. "Original COUNTUR Body" is what they put on strats because they're contoured. And it's a much smaller decal.

I'm glad everyone else caught everything. I was thinking no serial number on a CS seems odd, then I read the rest of the replies and I'm laughing at myself for not seeing that it had a "Countur" body :D

LOL at this sorry excuse for a fake!
Original Countur Body is just hilarious.
The CS logo on the back.
    Corona neck plate.
All the other items mentioned previously.
    Just very poorly done.

Custom Shop Guitars (at least mine and the ones I've seen on the dealers websites) have a serial number that starts with a letter C stamped in to the heel plate.

Most "Custom Shop" logo decals I've seen don't say "USA". No need, right?

Easily worth $50... I would offer them $50, maybe $75 tops.
