I see your Lyle Lovett, and raise you a Chris Knight:

“He didn’t have to ask us, but he asked us anyway,
We stood up and said ‘I do’, what else were we gonna say?”

    Couldn’t agree more...

“Pride is what you charge a proud man for having,
Shame is what you sell to a whore”

“They don’t pay you enough to work,
They don’t pay me enough to b*tch”

“Meats just meat and it’s all born dying, some is tender and some is tough,
Somebody’s gotta mop up and eat one,
Somebody’s gotta mop up the blood”

    mild-mannered supermen
    are held in krptonite.
and the wise and foolish virgins giggle with their bodies glowing bright.
through the door a harvest feast
    is lit by candlelight.
it's the bottom of a staircase
    that spirals out of sight.

"She puts her makeup on like the graffiti on the walls of the heartland." - "Last of the American Girls", Green Day.

Not one of their best songs by any means, but I have always really enjoyed that lyric. It's highly imaginative and creative.

Cleaned a lot of plates in Memphis, pumped a lot of pain down in New Orleans.

Roy Orbison singing for the lonely, hey that's me and I want you only.

White line fever, a sickness born, down deep within my soul
White line fever, the years keep flyin' by like the highline poles

And as he handed me a drink, he began to hum a song; and all the boys there, at the bar, began to sing along.
