ZZ Top. Motorhead. I know someone is going to say Rush. But Rush is about the worst popular band ever. I would rather listen to bag pipes with dogs barking.

I expect mentions of all the classic trios, many of whom I love. But I'm going more modern.

Biffy Clyro. We've seen them on three of their US tours and they've delivered every time.

The Cream (as Eric calls them), The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble (before adding keyboardist Reese Wynans).

I echo your feelings about Rush...never got the attraction, but taste is subjective.

Some good ones mentioned already, to which I'll add :

    The Wilko Johnson Band
    The Pirates
    Budgie
    Toy Dolls

Rory Gallagher was both THE man and a band, so Rory!

I'm scratching my head on how Rush could be considered "The worst popular band ever." I don't think they ever set out to be the next Boyz 2 Men, ya know?

Nirvana for sure....now I'm drawing a blank on other 3 pieces. Green Day and Blink 182 back in the day. There were a few good 3 pieces in the 90's. When I think of older bands they have 4 or more...newer bands I'm thinking of have only 2! Are bands shrinking as time goes on?

In retrospect, I realize their songs weren’t really that good, but one of my formative influences was Grand Funk Railroad.

    I’ll add Robin Trower.
    Mahogany Rush

Been on a Kings X thing for the last little bit.

I like the Winery Dogs in small doses.

Well there is also Styx. America (the band) . Kansas. Genesis. Phil Collins. Aerosmith. The Beatles. Striper. Winger. The Who. Sammy Hagar. Nazareth. Danzig. Rush. Rush. Rush. Not all 3 piece bands so off topic. But they all suck. But Rush sucks more.
