i listened using the HTML tool above. Got laurel all the way over to the second to the right slider. However, when going back from where I heard Yanny I had to all the way back to the middle to hear laurel. Very odd. Wonder what this says about music and frequency recognition and expectation when you listen to a brand new song you have never heard?

I'm ashamed to say I listened, as I usually try to avoid any kind of Internet banality exists for the sole purpose of making people disagree (and disagreeable).

But, I listened. And, after a half-dozen or so passes, I could and can hear only one thing:

    "Yalie" (yay-lee).

I don't have any idea how anybody is hearing "yanny" or "laurel." I simply can't hear either one of these at all.

My TV autotunes to the news every morning just before the alarm goes off, and I was annoyed out of bed by this thing playing seemingly endlessly.

Where did this audio clip really come from? I suspect that it's been highly manipulated to achieve the result we see here. Digital voice synthesis has advanced in the past few years so that this clip sounds artificially artificial.

Listened this morning on line with headphones and clearly heard "laurel". This afternoon my wife asks me to come watch something on TV. It's the yanny/laurel test. I don't tell her I took the test earlier, and go along by listening again. On the TV I hear a clear "yanny"! What the...?!! My wife says to me "You heard "laurel", right?" So, uh, I didn't vote.

For what it's worth, I listened to the YannY thing on the news today as well, and only hear Yanny, It was HD cable, but here is the deal I think. the Speakers in TV's are not know for their full Frequency Response. I think that if the low frequency are not emphasized that you hear yanny When I used my D/A Converter and Speakers on my computer I hear laurel almost up to the end of the right side frequency shift. So the TV thing I don't think is very accurate in reproduction.

I might check this out after work when I have my earbuds. If I have a signal. And I'm bored to death.

Epiphany: I just realized I was trying to hear "Yanni," not "Yanny" for a very interesting reason. I know a girl who spells her name Yanny but pronounces it as "Yanni", like the guy whose picture I posted above.
