    Hi,

I recently picked up a Yamaha THR10C and it is great. I particularly like the "Class A" (DC 30) amp model as it has good cleans but I can get a nice breakup sound with it too on my (Baja) Tele.

However, sometimes I'd like a bit more of a drive sound and I was thinking of getting a pedal to help with that.

Can anyone recommend pedals they have used for this purpose? I was considering options like the Electro Harmonix Soul Food or the Joyo Ultimate Drive.

Anyone have any experiences to report with these? or can you recommend others?

    Thanks.

PS - are there any tricks to getting more of a drive sound with just the 10C? I'd read that ramping up the master and gain and turning down the guitar volume can be good for this.

The THR10C takes really well to pedals, and reacts like a real amp (even with germanium fuzz pedals!). Basically any nice overdrive will work well :)

When i play the tele the 10c is quite clean on most models. Shifting to PRS it changes. The humbuckers push it harder.
I use a TC Spark booster and a Mooer Rumble with good results. Sounds good with both guitars. If you want to get more of the 10c's distortion without coloring the tone with an overdrive pedal, a booster like the TC Spark works.

I don't know that the Soul Food would be that good of a match. The Ultimate Drive is very good. BB V1 clones work well also.

I think you would need a pedal that sounds good with the volume low (on the pedal) so that you don't clip the input of the THR10C. I did not like any drive pedals through mine at first because I was used to using them with a tube amp and setting the volume to push the preamp a bit. Also, most of my OD/Fuzz pedals just sound better when they are opened up volume wise. That's why I mostly play straight to the yamaha or use only delay and modulation pedals with it.

You can get more drive from just the 10c with the level controll on the compressor. You have access to it through the editor.
