Cheatham Street Warehouse in San Marcos, 1974. Doesn't get much cooler. The Red-Headed Stranger and Mr. Bojangles.

The fiddler is an old friend, Jack Rogers.
My father, Jack and I used to play fiddle tunes when I was a kid.
    I played guitar, to clarify.
I have not seen Jack in many years.
    Cool picture!

Great pic - 74 is about the time I discovered Willie, thanks to a friend from Texas.

Love the personal connection you have to it.

It'd be lovely if they were doing one of jerry Jeff's train songs in luckenbach Texas.

    It's a great photo regardless.

I saw Willie perform in my hometown of Beaumont in 1977. My Dad and his second wife were also huge fans, and the show was great.

He looked about the same as in this picture (minus the Tele, of course).

Magical place. I have no idea who played the one and only night I was there but it was the stuff of dreams. I think it was late summer of 74 and Jerry Jeff was the soundtrack for that trip. I don't have the clearest memory of the warehouse because total strangers were buying us drinks and gave us other "stuff".

We wound up somewhere near New Braunfels. We had a bullwhip and wire milk crate and were in the process of road hunting armadillos when we ran out of gas just before sunup...

Sounds like something I would have done here in Florida. We used to drive down to the lake behind my grandparents' house at night, drunk as h*ll, and freeze 'dillos in the headlights. Then one of us would run around behind 'em and pick it up. They'd freak out and roll into a ball faster than you-know-what.

My friend from Tejas brought back some armadillo stickers that fit really well on a license plate. I carried one on the front of my party-mobile Dodge van for a few years.
