    Hi,

I´m planning to hot rod my Fender Japan Strat. I want to change the body (alder instead of basswood) and want to install a new tremolo.

I can´t decide between the Wilkinson VSV and the Callaham V/N. Both do have a narrower string spacing, which is good for me, because the high e string always slips of the fretboard. The VSV has got 54mm, the Callaham 52,39mm string spacing. More than 54mm is not an option for me.

The VSV costs 140,- Euros and the Callaham 200,- in good old Germany.

Which one would you choose an why? Is there anyone having both of them and can you tell me the differences?

    Thanks Daniel ;)

I have the cheap 26 quid version of the vintage style wilkingson and its very good .Cant really see how to improve it much as it looks good and works perfectly with a push in arm

I have never used the Wilkinson but have used the Callaham vintage narrow bridge assembly on two USA Custom Guitars Strat partscasters.

Can't say if its a noticible tone improvement over a standard Fender vintage style tremolo...that's not why I used them.

I absolutely love the Callaham. A quality, well made product...feels solid.
Stays in tune great with vintage style non locking tuners.

Yes they are kinda pricey, but worth it to me.
I'd rather pay a little extra for something I want than take a chance on saving a few bucks but not being satisfied with the product.

Good luck with your mod project.
(I never liked basswood, either...too soft!)

I installed the Wilkinson on my walnut strat, installed Callahams on my Road Worn and Paisley strat, and I much prefer the Callaham. I will be replacing the VSV with a Callaham soon.

Man that's some pricey trems. How about a Wilky WVP with the steel block?
