That looks really excellent. You must be relieved to have it come out so nicely.

Way to stick with it, though you clearly don't need more practice persevering. Can't wait to see it all done and mounted.

How is your current neck pup mounted--hanging from the pickguard?

Mine was hanging from the standard guard, and it's the same with the leather. My guy didn't reinforce the backing with anything--the leather is stiff enough. But maybe yours will be done "more correctly" than mine.

Who the hell knows. I never had a leather guard.

Mine is a body-mount neck pup. He doesn't do back reinforcement and said he hasn't had any problems since he uses such thick leather. The guy has done leatherwork for Fender Custom Shop before and his portfolio is outstanding, so I trust him. Worse case scenario is I get a thin 1-ply to throw behind it, but I'm going to give it a go first without it.

Who makes nice and thin (but sturdy) 1-ply guards?

Yeah... he should be finishing it up some time next week and shipping it out. I'll definitely post a finished product.

You're not going to need one, especially with a body mount pup.

    Oh wow. Gorgeous.

Keep in mind that since it's leather, I think it's impossible for the screw holes to line up perfectly, so you might have to redrill. Mine were off, but I didn't care. The old hole(s) are covered anyway.

I'm curious how your alignment is. My guy buys the leather blank pre-cut, so he doesn't even punch the holes. But looking at the tooling on yours, crap! Look how those holes are punched through a high relief in the leather.

The holes lined up perfectly! No redrilling needed. Since he did some Fender Custom Shop work, he had the necessary templates and it fits like a glove!

You can see pics of it installed here: http://www.tdpri.com/threads/project-guitar-is-done-and-it-turned-out-awesome.764715/
