For some reason I couldn t sleep last night, partly because i was hungry. I woke up and fixed myself a sandwich with cheese, dried beef meat, and spicy olives, with a bit of coke ( couldn t sleep so i though a bit of soda would probably help). Don t tell me I m the only one to do such things !

When I go home late at night after a bit of drinking, I also like to fry eggs with salt, pepper and hot sauce and a bit of bread. I also like head cheese and gras double (tripes ? ) if I ve got some.

    Here are gras double.

What is "dried beef meat"? Beef jerkey?
You drank a Coke (with caffeine) to try to help you get to sleep?

Two scoops of vanilla ice cream, topped with granola and drizzled with maple syrup. Oh ya babe.

yeah the coke part was a joke, and for the dried meat, it s not what i d call beef jerky but it s hard to translate.

here s what i meant, i think it s salted dried beef, but it s different from the homemade Louisiana beef jerky a friend gave to me.

I haven't had dried beef if in years, I use to eat a whole jar of it for a snack when I was a teenager...Armour brand, with a flip top Jar...

Favorite midnight snack, Fritos, hosed with Cholula and a Dr Pepper.

I'm still working on leftover Halloween candy:)

If I was in France no doubt I'd have more sophisticated options.

I'd love s car go as a midnight snack!

I actually have a semi-funny escargot story. My wife is half French. We used to eat dinner at her mom's house a lot (mom was the full-blood frog). Escargot with crunchy bread was a frequent first course. The family was also very Catholic, so meat was out during Lent or whatever they call those silly times when they can only eat fish.

My mother-in-law continued to serve escargot during these times. One day I quietly took my wife aside and pointed out to her that snails weren't seafood. She looked at me incredulously and said, '' aren't they shell fis......?''. She just stopped in the middle of the word. Her eyes widened and then she said, ''We'd better not tell mom!''.

When I'm drinking beer or spirits, Lightly roasted almonds with salt and dark sugar and a little chilli powder.
When I'm drinking red wine. Soft Cambazola cheese and crackers.
When I'm drinking sparkling white salted wine crisps/potato chips.

At the rare moment that I would wake up in the middle of the night I would go to the fridge and pull a Homer Simpson. Anything I can yank out of there and eat in a hurry. I would usually get up and wait for breakfast....a good one.

I go for a hunk of sourdough French bread and butter. Toasted if the woodstove is still hot.

BTW, in the states I think they call it, "dried beef" or "chipped beef".

I would have never of thought of a such a complex snack, but the French just know how to do it right.
