Gotcha. But I will say that I like a UL Twin as much as a 5e3. Truth! I'd tell you what I'm smoking, but no one would believe the box it came in. ;]

I have three electrics but really just play my '98 American Deluxe strat. There's also a 'big small builder' strat I'm too self-conscious about to gig, and an old Reverend. So those other two are kind of just there to trade in for instruments for my tiny humans.

The other guitar I play a lot is a nylon Taylor. So I could say 'two.'

Where I'm aiming for: strat, a tele (for the authoritative voice they have), nylon, playable steel string, bass (for recording and learning bass clef) and maybe a lap steel, as I love that sound (but have no idea what's good - you can't find them locally).

A 335 would be nice, but I can't afford one worth buying.

Amps, though.. I'm out of control. We have four.

    In my house?

It waxes and wanes, but apparently 13 is the magic number.

    :(

    Absolute minimum:
    Acoustic six string

But then you get to the electric realm. And you realize there are other electric sounds, so now we add:

    Single coil solid body electric
    Humbucker solid body electric

But I'm getting pretty good now and might want to do some home recording. I need an:

    Electric bass

Then you start thinking about adding something with P-90s and then thinking about 3 single coils and 2 single coils and then a nylon string acoustic and a 12 string acoustic, another electric set up for slide, maybe a resonator for slide. Lap steel? 12 string acoustic? Then a hollowbody, then a hollowbody with P-90s. Not to mention any upgrading you do over the years or if you start down the acoustic road and get into mahogany vs rosewood or cedar top and spruce top, mahogany top.... It. Never. Ends.

I def think I have too many, but can't figure out what to get rid of...

    3 strats (different pup configs)
2 teles ('72 reish, am std w/deluxe electronics)
2 LPs (Gib studio, epi p90s)
    1 Gretsch Electromatic
    1 Dougie 7 string bari
5 acoustics (classical, 8 string, nashville strung, 6 string, tenor)
1 mando (guess that doesn't count)

    plus 2 repair projects.

    Not so many amps.

I was seriously tempted by that American Deluxe that has the cards that you can change the wiring with, but what I really need is a way to swap out pickups in just a few seconds.

My dad says you can only play one at a time, but you should see how many clamps and drill bits and stuff he's got...

The minimum has to be one, any less would mean no guitar playing (been there, didn't like it). I didn't say I only had one now, or that I don't also own ukes, mandos, bass...

Dang TD, I was gonna say that if you only got one piece of unimpeachable evidence of your stupidity, you're doin pretty good, but the way you describe it, that one might count double! :D

PS: can I just add that I'm puzzled by all the bass love; might as well put a banjo on there... o_O

    :p

There is other evidence aplenty to confirm that I should have had a court appointed trustee in charge of my instruments, but hey it's a Telecaster forum so I used a Telecaster as evidence, there have even been other Teles, but that one really was unique. I got it second hand and I only know what pickups were supposed to be in it, and not what they actually were, but I know that though I've owned a number of Teles and have one now, none of them sounded like that baby. I haven't had a drink of booze in years, but that little action seems like something I would have done drunk.

    We have a winner!!!

Just one more is the correct answer, you go on to the super round where the prizes double, but the questions get harder....
