Years ago, I jumped in my truck and headed out to Las Vegas...all by myself. I thought it would be dull, but it was actually kind of spiritually cleansing. I did what I wanted, stopped where I wanted, and took any road I wanted. It did get kinda boring at times...especially the drive home. 2,400 miles round trip...and I even made a few $ at craps.

Probably won't ever be that free spirited again...responsibility sucks.

I used to travel between the Idaho/Oregon border and Huntsville, Al. and occasionally Charleston, SC. fairly regularly. In those days I was driving a Triumph 7 and for the last trip, a new Trans AM. Always flew solo, and generally made the trip each way in 2 1/2 days with two nights in a motel. I loved the sense of wide open freedom those trips gave me. I haven't done it in a lot of years. Some day I'll have to do it again.

Ontario to Huntsville was about 3400 miles round trip and Ontario to Charleston was a bit over 4000 miles.

TX to Nor Cal (many times)
    Nm to CA (many times)

I like time alone. Windshield time is good for reflection and thinking things through.

I drive a lot and I have come to embrace it and accept the value of it (while trying not to cringe at the hours spent and the fossil fuel expended)

Road Trips are fraught with opportunity... on I-5 I see so many frantic people and it makes me sad... they could be having fun all they have to do is change their mind.

When I was 19 I drove from Seattle to Chicago in 2 1/2 days by myself. I was pulled over in South Dakota for no reason, probably because I was driving a van at night. I was let off with a "Warning"

Hmm, for me it would be Cleveland OH to St. Cloud Minnesota when I was in grad school. So that's only like 800 miles each way. Made the trip from Kent Ohio to Lehigh PA several times, alone, while in grad school, too.

I have all my family in Nashville so its a trip I make at least 2 to 3 times a year for the last 30 years..exactly 700 miles each way and I do it in 1 stop..to get something to eat and fuel.
Sometimes I take my daughter and her freinds but mostly I go myself to get away for 3 or 4 days.I Stay at my sisters or brothers house so it basically costs me gas.Its always a really good time for all of us.My sister cooks just like my Mom did so I eat her out of the house too:grin:

I drove a diesel truck for years when I was younger, almost all of it solo, so I don't have one trip that stands out, but I've been a lot of places a lot of times. Once in a while I would pull into a place to deliver, and someone would remeber me, I had been there before and didn't even remember being there.

If it's just driving... the longest I did was from Texarkana, TX to Durango, CO in 1992. That's only about 1000 miles. The only stops I made were for fuel... and took care of all other necessities while fueling.

If we're talking about traveling alone in general, I'm about to leave Nashville by myself and meet up with some friends in New Delhi, India. Not even sure how many miles that is.

Lots of really long motorcycle trips. 10 - 14 day runs.
New Orleans to Redding California and back might be my longest car trip.

Lawton, OK to Detroit, MI. Somewhere around 1,000 miles, I think. My new wife came to join me a few months later.

Lasted a year before I found work back in OK.

Phoenix, Arizona to NYC was my longest ever solo car trip, done many years ago.

I too am very comfortable by myself, something my wife attributes to a bad case of "only child syndrome"!

4 weeks on the motorcycle alone, from Houston out to San Francisco and back, visiting 14 National Parks and many epic roads along the way, 7000 miles.

3 1/2 weeks on the motorcycle alone from Houston out to Washington DC and back, again tons of parks, epic roads, 5800 miles.

Spent most of last year on a continuous road trip, by my self, ended up doing 38,000 in ten months through 12 states.
So far this year, 2013, I've done 2,300 miles.

Mine are comparatively short in mileage, but since I tend to have "interesting" cars that by the time I can afford them are well past their prime, I try to "shunpike" and keep my speed down. You see some interesting stuff this way, and I have had some nice "finds" from small town music stores, yard sales etc..

Longest one was probably Baltimore to Pittsburg to see the Warhol museum, did it over two days, stoping for the first day in Johnstown PA to ride the incline, found a really cool vintage shop that could hang with anything in NYC...in an antiques mall !

I do Baltimore to Philadelphia on a pretty regular basis, usually go up US1 and over the Conawingo dam, with lunch in West Chester which has a couple of good shops and a laundromat with vintage pinball machines.

Other than that & I'm usually on the train..

    Same here.

I have no problems being alone... even for extended periods of time. And I love driving alone. Either listening to whatever I want, or simply being alone with my thoughts... for hours on end.

I'm actually looking forward to traveling from here to India by myself.

By myself...the longest and most painful drive was going from Richmond, VA to Tampa, FL, about 800 miles or so. Took me 27 hours. Reason was my wipers kept failing and it of course rained the entire way.

I'd get under an overpass, and repair them. A few miles down the road, same thing. It was a 1969 Chevelle, and I can't describe how the wipers work, but the arms kept slipping off the motor. Luckily I took tools along. I finally got out some bailing wire, and tied the things together. That got me to Tampa. I went to a parts house, and bought new "sockets" for them, cost me about $5, and that fixed it permanently.
