Thanks, Rich, I know exactly what you mean. You watch shows like This Old House, Norm and Tommy drop a perfectly-dimensioned window into a perfectly plumb and perfectly sized opening, pop a couple of nails and screws, a quick bead of caulk, and bam— it’s done and looks like a million bucks. What freaking universe do they live in, anyway? Not the one I’m stuck in!

    Nice lumber!
Lotta hand work, is that still over 1 3/4" thick?
How heavy is the doug fir in your area?
I assume it's been drying indoors for decades?

BTW, are you making instruments for kids without getting paid?
I do enjoy your builds, might recognize your work if I saw it hanging in a shop.

Funny, yesterday after I finished cleaning up my table saw workshop area yesterday, my wife commented that she thought I was setting up a new painting studio for her!

Yeah, it's just on 1 3/4", I'd like to take a bit off each side to get the marks out of it and get into solid wood where the join is tighter... I only planed the joint faces and the outside was still a bit rough... it's only sanded to #60 paper atm..

I might use a metal control plate and trim that guard shape down a bit....

weight of this blank without any pocket routs is @ 5 lbs.... the body is a bit smaller than the orig tele basses...

a lot of D/F, came over here in the 80's after Mt St Helens went off and they had to use a lot of the timber effected real fast... many of the beach houses used it for rafters and beams... and now it's ending up in the used timber yards as the older homes are torn down and mc mansions go up down the coast... well seasoned by now... :)

I line the bottom bag of my dust collector with a plastic garbage bag. Just pull it out and tie it, no need to empty the bottom bag into a garbage bag and make a mess.

Plain wood and wetted with alcohol, I’m loving this bloodwood. So I also made bloodwood fretmarkers. 2653BCB2-6775-48BB-A069-646E1AF00EAF.jpeg C48B28C0-3FBA-48C9-8C7F-187941387CDF.jpeg 98919B8D-D129-44AD-8D22-8F01669EFA52.jpeg

Pretty much finished the UkeTele. Just a few cosmetic tweaks and it's ready for its new owner. It sounds wonderful. A proper baby Tele tone but with a lovely snarl from the neck hotrail. I'll record a clip tomorrow.

I tried some different caps in my home-brew 18W amp ... now it has reduced cathode cap in the first stage (less low frequencies) and changed the type of PI coupling cap (voodoo :D)

It's cold and raining here, but won't let that stop me from finishing this polka dot machine!

All that is left to do is wire in a three way toggle and the output jack (parts are inbound)...final set-up and then play the hell out of it.
