What's on your workbench today?

I highly doubt it that Sully pays 350 Dollars for every set neck guitar at his volume ;)

I get mine sprayed for the half of the market price due to the number and I do not even put out half as much as Sully.

    Oh yeah, you are correct!!

Someone asked about where to get Pro level paint work done and after hearing an interview with the owner of Rowyco Guitars, it's the one I knew and remembered!!

For a one and done paint job, the price would be different then someone that provides somewhat steady work...

20 years ago a guy vending next to me at the Syracuse Guitar Show was getting over $100 a body for a pro job. I suspect that it'd be 200 dollars or more today. He was a pro painter and the guy you went to for Fender or Gibson color finish work.

How about what didn't end up on my workbench. Time to clean up after the last run...

Another Tele neck, and another local timber fretboard - Acacia acuminata or Raspberry Jam wood. You'll never guess what it smells like when cut......

It was actually! Just finished up the aging on the '57 Musicmaster Rest-Mod Duo Sonic conversion as I was reading through this yesterday. I'll post the pics from my phone...

1957 Fender Musicmaster Resto-Mod Duo Sonic finished. Just got back from Costco after running this body through the Time Machine. It needed to match the wear level of the neck.

I had 3 gigs this weekend. I drug it along because you never know if it's good until you're onstage. It was so good I actually played it one entire night and never grabbed another guitar! It's for sale now. If you are interested let me know. It's a cute little thing!!!

Actually it's what's NOT on my workbench anymore. I just finished this butcher block for a friend. 50 bf of hard maple. Weighs about 150 lbs. Took two 16 oz bottles of Titebond III to glue it up. It's all end grain on the top and all the grain/growth rings are all oriented properly so it'll move right without tearing itself up. The top and sides are all hand planed, no sanding. It's finally gone!

Glad it's finished. Wracked up my back moving it out of the shop but the doc says just muscle, no spine, so should be better in a few days.

    Cheers,
    Rex

    Beauty, Rex!
All glue? no thru rods hidden by end panels ?
Always wondered how those were put together.

Nice job Rex! Are you going to brace those legs??? They're probably OK but look a bit spindly compared to the block. Any idea on the weight?

Just working on a quick little build. I played a vintage 1960 LP Jr. DC in NY last week and, since the project has been on my list for some time, I decided to finally get at it. Neck was already mostly built and waiting. I call this the Red Dwarf (heritage cherry Jr.). The biggest difference will simply be modern finishes and a scarfed headstock with straight string pull.

I dig juniors, especially double cuts, and I like the changes you've made.

    Mmmm, I'm gonna guess 150 lbs. ;):D

Nice job, Rex. You could throw your whole ox carcass across that baby, and chop out your steaks and chops, with nary a tremble from that block!
