Today it's do-overs. Wasn't happy with the look of the bookmatch on the redwood so I ripped the glue line and glued up the other side. That was the original choice but I thought it might look neat the way I had it. I was wrong. If this fails to impress there's always the non-bookmatched side which is pretty cool as well with very heavy grain lines going every which way. Bars from clamps are in the way for that so maybe a picture later.

On the bench today are...well, two new benches. I've built over 20 guitars on a small bench in the corner. After acquiring tools and supplies over the last two years, it's clear my car will never see the inside of the garage again so I'm claiming some more square footage and resolving to park in the driveway year round.

And winter's coming. :(

    Mark

EDIT: And a mere 7 hours later, I have 2 new benches ready to collect...I mean, store...my stuff. Yea!

EDIT: And while I was at it, I gave my faithful old bench a new top.

Today I reworked the chamber template and did this:

There was a mountain of maple chips when I was done.

Happy to be aboard - I'm in kind of the same spot as you garage-wise, Mark. If I want to putz in the shop, I need to roll the car out, move around a bunch of tools and my main work table, then reverse the process when I'm done messing around. It's worth it, of course...;)

I have to say that I check in here these days mostly to see what you're up to.

    :)

    Nice work!

This Ibbie Mikro small-scale electric that I bought for my 7-year-old daughter's Christmas present.

The tag at Sam Ash said it had been set up, intonated and all that jazz, but I got it home and it needed fret-leveling, intonating, relief and action adjustment, a little bit of nut slot carving and, well, that's almost everything, isn't it? I didn't lift the PG yet, though! The pots seem pretty good. I gotta say, as somebody who has only been cracking open his guitars for a couple of years, it's a great feeling to be able to buy any old cheapo guitar and make it play and sound better.

Not necessarily on my bench but here are some of my unfinished projects.

    Mandocaster
    Telemaster
    Mystery Hybrid
    Andy Summers Clone
    Mini-Telecaster
    Telecaster Made From A Post
    Sub-Sonic Telecaster
    Pine Telecaster
    Painted Spokecaster

I'm good at starting projects but a little slow at finishing them.

If using my tablesaw as a workbench counts, today I have a mirror frame/shelf that I built yesterday and painted this morning sitting there drying.

Once the mirror is in, it's going to go up on the wall behind my bar.

I'm super satisfied about what I just got off the bench today, a 5-string wormy maple and padauk fretless bass on the bench, off and on, for about six months. Turned out at least as well as I'd hoped and sounds fantastic with a pair of widely spaced SD stacked jazz bass pups. Body is sapele and ash, neck is padauk and is surfaced with multiple coats of superglue and sanded back.

Thats going to look reaaly good there.
And New, the bass almost has me drooling.....
I personally am a "project butterfly" get my fill of one project and move to another, then come back to previous ones, rough carved my first ever archtop plate, liking the way a flap disc carves......

Very cool indeed! Can we see a pic of the entire guitar...straight on? I see bits and pieces but not a complete shot.

I'm with Jack on this one.

On my bench, so to speak.

    Flame Maple Strat
    Candy Red Strat
    Trans Blue Strat
    Mahogany Mockingbird
    Gretsch Jet carved top
    Custom double cut carved top
    Custom double cut flat top
    D-35 inspired double cut
    Melody Maker inspired double cut

On my mind to build...let's not go there. It's scary.

    Wow, very nice!!

Did you treat the padouk in any way to prevent it from turning brown?
