What Wood is This?

    Hey guys. Had this '75 telecaster deluxe for a few months now. I figured it was poplar but I'd like some second opinions. On the Wikipedia page it says tele deluxes' were either ash or alder! Could it be ash? IMG_4872.JPG

    My guess would be Alder, but then I still haven't figured out one of my telecasters either so don't go by me.

    You may have to take the neck off so we can see the bare wood of the pocket.

    Doesn't look like ash. Between the two, it looks like alder to me.

    Fjestad's Blue Book says that it's poplar.

    Still haven’t quite figured this out! Here are some pictures of the back. Seems like it’s a tie between alder and poplar. It’s a 75 btw!

    Ash grain can vary. I've seen Ash that looks like Alder. As long as it's not plywood, I would say it's good.
