About three or four years ago Squier offered a solid blonde or butterscotch blonde Tele with p90's and it had a Strat head stock......a big 70's Strat headstock.

They cost about $349 cash retail.

    Remember that one?

    What was it called?

Can anyone link to info or a YouTube video??

    Thanks much,

    John

I own one. It's a VM Tele special. Tele from tbridge back and body but jazzmaster from the neck pickup forward. It's a great guitar and I think the JM neck pickup better matches the Tele bridge than stick Tele neck pickups. Go ahead, flame me.

Is it the Mexican made Blacktop series you are thinking of?.

That was the Telecaster Custom II. Fender also made a higher end version called the Black Dove Telecaster.

I love the P90's on the Custom II. Got it in black an banana pudding yellow (or whatever the official name for colour was).

I like the VM Special as well. Sometimes I think it is of a higher quality than the Custom II, but the latter has more "crunch" to it.

Neat. The large cbs headstock is cool and I remember the idea being half jazzmaster, half tele. Either way, the guitar was a very well thought out modification.

    That's it. Thanks everyone.

Now if only I could find one. None on eBay or Reverb. People must keep 'em. The other guitar player in the band that I've started with recently keeps describing this exact guitar. I'll send him a link to this thread. I've told him that the guitar exists but I couldn't remember the name or link to it.

    Thanks!

I know, it's asinine. I added a dimarzio area hot t to the bridge of mine, and I'm obviously upside down on the rig, or at least I thought.

I saw one at a GC near me. I thought it was homemade or modded by the PO or something, I didn't know it was made that way from the factory. I remember REALLY liking it, to the point of going back the next day with my credit card, but of course it was gone... But now, thanks to this thread, I know what to search for.
