U.S. judge tosses lawsuits about labels on Parmesan cheese

Feinerman also said the 100 percent claims might be interpreted as other than an assertion that the product contained nothing but cheese. It could also be taken to mean 100 percent of the cheese was Parmesan or that the Parmesan cheese was 100 percent grated, he noted.
Lawyers, bless their hearts. And fans of this stuff: enjoy your added wood pulp. I think I'll just buy Parmesan in a block and grate it with a microplane.

I think it means 100% of the stuff is grated.

Your facts my vary, as usual.

Just as bad, and the same company:

They have to spell it this why because it isn't cheese, but they're allowed to call it "cheese dip."

Yeah, like when you see those chicken pressed things in the frozen section of the grocery store, and they're calling them "wyngz" :p

When even Kraft execs don't let their kids eat this stuff, you know you ought to stay away as well.
Their "Parmesan" is crap, btw. Get the real deal and grate a little yourself. I didn't realize I actually liked Parmesan until I did this.

Mechanically reconstituted parmesan is acceptable as long as there are no other cheeses in the mix.

Thats when they scrape the remnants out of all the empty moulds once the blocks have been packaged for sale. Also saves on the cost of grating.

    Buen appetito.

As a general rule, I avoid consuming anything that has "whiz" in its name. I will take a whiz, but never buy any.

It's like the other company that claims it's :made with 100% beef
    The rest is whale meat.
Also 100% beef includes snouts, hooves and genitals as well as guts, etc...

That's why you just buy the jar of pickled pig's feet. You know exactly what you're getting that way

It's not merely that it may not all be 100% Parmesan cheese, as opposed to other cheese, but any cheese that's been grated for packaging has to be coated in a preservative to stop it going off quicker. That may be by tumbling in a vat or spraying, but however it's done, it's another unnecessary additive that should not be going into the food chain. Same goes for any food that's cut up and packaged 'fresh' because people can't peel a banana themselves or slice a courgette, they 'need' it prepared and resented to them so they don't have to do anything. Poor little souls.

Any cheese that says "refrigerate after opening" should be left on the grocery store shelf.

Cellulose..It's an anti-clumping agent. People want speed in their cheese dispersal. We are in a speed society.
Just like eating a tree or switch grass. Very Natural.

At least in America, we're pretty dumb about this stuff.

For example, I read that you don't have to refrigerate butter or eggs here, eggs mainly because they're sprayed with a protective coating, not allowed or not common practice in the EU. Of course, we still refrigerate them.

So I bet that 99% of Yankees think that even real cheese has to be refrigerated. But with all of the preservatives we put in most products, WHY!?

Another example is "Creme" in Oreo-type cookies and other snacks. There's no such thing as "Creme," only "Cream," but since there isn't any, a new word is invented.
