What album did you play in your car on every first date when you were in your early twenties?

Just wondering what people thought was cool in their early twenties on first dates to throw into, in my case the (cassette player) and rock it out or not to impress your lady.

My wife and I were into similar music. Before we started dating she recommended the band “brand new” so we listed to a couple of their albums on our first few dates. I didn’t have a standard “first date album” though. In high school I tended to listen to ‘new found glory’ when I was hanging out/driving around with cute girls I liked.

I traveled in deadhead & blues circles a lifetime ago. The girls I went with didn't care who was on the stereo as much as what was on the stereo. Everything we listened was basically a specimen to be examined within our lifestyle, and was subject to further discussion, or not.

To answer the OP, if I could go back & get a do-over knowing what I know now, and if I were more of a trendster, I would likely play her some Lyle Lovett. Girls get all worked up over Mr. Lovett...

not so much "first date", but - I made up a special extra-long-version cassette tape where I spliced together 3x Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin's "Je t'aime (moi non plus)" for special occasions.

I traveled with the rodeo, and Garth Brooks was popular at the time. I was in a new town almost every week, and had a first date almond every week. Usually the girl I was with would just tune the radio to her favorite station.

I’m thinking quite a few here would be dead men if they had to recall how many dates they had by that age, and same (dead) if they talked about it.

It's like the first rule of Fight Club.

(Just Kidding, it's safe, as long as we provide no details about anything but music, a car, and something guitar related, no "spousey sense" will be alerted. I need better puns.....)

Listen. Obviously your response (or album) will be directly related to how old you are . Just say what it is. Every dude wanted to paint a picture of who they are through music to a new romantic interest.

First date with the girl that, later, became my wife?

Sex Pistols, Never Mind the Bollocks.

She felt in love with me immediately.

Of course, we're not a common couple...

My wife brought her own. She pushed a Barbara Streisand tape into the player. I had to pretend to like it even though most of my tapes were Dylan. I still have to pretend to like Babs. The compromise we worked out later was Mozart or Prokofiev. She tolerated Alexander Nevsky. I tolerated Mozart’s clarinet concerto. Prokofiev ballets were the compromise. We’ll be married 45 years in May. I dropped the XM subscription in my car so I don’t have to listen to cable news when she’s with me. We don’t disagree about everything. She’s a little to my right politically but so is everyone else I know. We agree on vacation destinations, Hawaii and Europe. We agree on cars too, just not on what plays on the radio.

Wow! What a memory that brings back. Forget the car, in my late teens with my girlfriend, Moody Blues, Nights in White Satin was on the reel to reel in my bedroom the first time we, well, ya, you know. I’m still married to her 47 years later and that is still our song. I think I need a cold shower......

it was the late 80's and I don't recall having a tape deck so I think it was just the radio
