Weber SoWatt 5E3 arrived today.
The color is a little off because I adjusted levels to show a little more.
Looking good! Let us know how it sounds.
Is that as received? Or did you modify it? Looks nice and if that's straight out of the box, then the level of workmanship is surprising. Who says the Chinese can't do decent quality work?
Looks good. It would only take a few bucks and about an hour to swap the OT out and upgrade the coupling caps.
Did you try it yet
These pics are as is - out of the box. The Weber site says it comes without tubes, but they shipped tubes with it.
I had it plugged in for about 5 minutes before my wife got home. It will be Sunday before I can get it into the cab and play around with it.
I already have replacement coupling caps, but I plan on playing it as is for a while before I tinker.
I think Weber got it already assembled from here: http://www.mableaudio.com/www-web/shopview.asp?id=135&typename=5E3 I found a kit assembly manual with their name on it (via google) on a site in Brazil that is identical down to the brand of caps. Search "mable 5e3 manual" and look for a pdf.
Wow....a 18W TMB kit for under $200, that is scary
And a Bassman is in the works... For an extra $30 I think I'd go for the completed amp
Shipping would probably be at least $100.
Wow, very nice.
I'd like to know more, is this from Weber? I don't see anything on their site about it.
Here it is:
A little help for my bro north of me:
IMO, for this price, you all have no excuse not to get one. Forget Blues Jr's and Pathfinder's, even DRRI's. This is an AMP! RAWK!
YMMV, JMO, etc.
Buy the time you pay for shipping you could probaly get the chassis kit from Weber.Wich is an excelent company by the way
Thanks Man !
I just might have to get one of these when funds allow it, I wonder if it would fit in a Blues Jr. cabinet.
Still like to hear about the test drive when you get to it.
After that I may jump on it. Any other things like wait time, shipping costs, total cost would be cool to know also.
Your pictures are so much better than Webers, thanks.
If it sounds good I'll build my own custom retro looking cab, no problemo
While I don't have any other 5E3s to compare with, I think this amp sounds fantastic!
As long as the tone is below 8, it is pretty much hum free. Above 8 it is noticeable, but not a problem.
I got this amp because:
1. Everybody should have a tweed.
2. It will be easy to tinker with before I do an actual build.
3. I play mostly Jazz (some of it on the bluesy side) and I wanted the warm tone of the early dark-side jazz players who were pushing small tube amps.
Most of my guitars have humbuckers, so I loaded a 12AU7 in v1 and a 12AY7 in v2, and my Eastman 335 style sounds fine. The Tele of course sounds good. I will play around with some others (tubes and guitars).
Now I just have to figure out how to use the interactive controls.
I have a NOS 5Y3GT and a couple of TungSol 6V6 power tubes.
V5 Pins 4 & 6 332
Now it is time to close the laptop and take this amp off standby.
If not for browsing this forum, I would not have gone down this path.
Any chance of a sound clip or video ?
OK, I have turned off the amp.
This thing loves the Tele.
Big fat Jazz chords with a humbucker are a little harry. I will be making some mods to make it more 'bucker friendly,.
If I can get an mp3 recorded, what is the best way/place to upload/share it?
Play into the #2 input. No mods needed. Dime (dozen?) your unused channel. It'll clean up.
Build quality looks good they even put carbon comps in the right places.Except the ones on the input jacks.
