So I was looking around for a device to provide some portability and silence when playing my telecaster and came across this product. Saw some reviews and videos and most were positive. Does anyone have any experience with the 2nd version of these products? Not sure if the Clean model is able to play with some distortion. Seems the AC30 model is more diverse as you can do clean and dirty.

    Thanks.

I love the AC30 version. Don’t know about the clean though.

Thanks. How does the “clean” sound on the AC30?

Gain 0 and Volume max, it’s almost completely clean with bridge pickup.

I highly recommend an extension cord, if you’re gonna play Tele or anything else with jack on the side of the guitar. Plug’s bottom end is made of not so flexible plastic. I cracked mine in a couple of months when not being careful. Leaned too much to the right and there it went. A drop of glue and some painter’s tape, holds it up barely together.

Or just don’t play when sitting or lying around in bed :D

Btw thanks for bringing this up! I had forgot all about it. Nice gadget, time to take back in active use!

Thanks for the feedback. Glad to hear the AC30 is able to get some type of clean sound. Just wondering what the clean sound difference would be between the AC30 model and the actual clean model.

Good! Sounds like a clean Vox. They’re pretty impressive IMO for what they are.
    Pretty durable too.

    I have the amplug 2 ac30 and it’s great.
I concur, don’t use sitting on the couch with the amplug against anything.
I even use mine plugged into my pedalboard sometimes.

The AC30 is a good call. Decent cleans, nice overdrives. I've also run the headphone output to the line input of my katana mini with good results. The Amplugs are really good products.

I have the AC30 Ampplug, and personally something about the wave shape gives me a headache—clean or distorted. I’m a Vox amp fan, but I’m going to sell the Amplug.

It costs more, but for silent playing, I really enjoy using the iRig thru the basic free Amplitube software (your phone or iPad can be the host device). Acoustically, to my ear it’s orders of magnitude superior to (and more versatile than) the Amplug. And if you noodle up a good riff you want to save for song work, just hit Record.

Thanks for all the responses. I guess the sentiment is to go with the AC30. I would like to play with some distortion at times and I'm not sure if the Clean model allows for that.

@Tootle, I'm not sure what you mean by wave shape?

When a Vox model name says Clean, it usually really means Clean.

I have the clean, the boutique sound is slightly driven, it also has a nice Twin clean setting, there are some sound samples here:

The exact thing happened to me, and I agree with your recommendation. That plastic plug is the weakness in this unit. I wasn't even applying that much force when I removed if from the guitar, and it cracked along the seam anyway. All you have to do is be slightly off.

Thanks for the sound samples. Looks like the “Clean” model can do some level of distortion. How do you get the boutique sound?

I mean the sound. It’s got some jagged edges.

The amp has three main settings: Clean/twin/boutique OD , then each setting has three effects (chorus/delay/reverb) to choose from, or no effect option

The AC30 version changed my life.
I can practice late at night despite the fact that our house has an open floor plan and the bedroom doors are not solid core.

Very happy with the clean sound.
Taught myself how to play Apache watching YouTube videos and running the audio out from the laptop to the aux jack on the AC30
