The original lyric, of course, is “bubbling crude.”

Like many of the ruder posts we occasionally see on the forum.

My wife's sister and her husband live maybe two blocks from there. They sometimes get tar in their backyard, and if you dig the soil gets tarry pretty quick. But it's not as liquid as that

That would be some nasty stuff to step in. And natural gas, with smokers around? I'm guessing if it caught fire, it would burn forever.

"across the street from The La Brea Tar Pits and Museum, a national natural landmark where tar has been seeping up from the ground for tens of thousands of years." no reason to get excited... (well, unless you are a mammoth)

Quite jokingly, I thought of that last night. I'm nowhere near Cleveland or LA, but something boomed and rumbled last night and I heard lots of sirens. Not so funny is the boom was a few blocks away, 12 hours ago, and the area's still blocked off with a bomb squad truck and law enforcement vehicles on the scene.

It seems like they do overkill on some of those fire calls, but there have been some crazy incidents in the area where dudes were making home made bombs.

all the news here is about the spacex launch coming up (120 miles from here) no mention of the terrible swarm of 2.0 earthquakes... I think the news here sees them as 'grandma's farts'

We are having a heat wave, but even that... is just a couple months early...

For that neighborhood scene I just wonder when we (modern USA) are doing overkill. I'm not against it all. When we had the floods and an active shooter in the neighborhood I saw exactly why I have a big property tax bill. The first responders had the tools and the training.

What works people up is also making more sense lately because I'm purposely taking in more pop news sources.

I don't want to ask for a heat wave but was bummed to hear cool and moist is supposed to linger all summer. At 10 months, this area still does not have all the flood water gone and repairs complete. If you look at the FEMA floodplain maps here you see everything that could possibly be wet is. Not much of a rainfall will have water seeping out of places you wouldn't expect.

My general optimism is a bit off when I'm sure the west will have another costly fire season and this area has short and long-term problems popping up.
