There are only three guitarists who are not overrated:
Today's fenders are as good as or better than any other fenders.
I suspect Gibson may be the same. But I don't know gibsons as well.
guitar has pretty well played itself out, as far as mainstream popular culture goes
same thing for rock music
A Telecaster can not do just about anything that a Les Paul can. (On the other hand a Les Paul can do hardly anything which a Tele can do!)
I'm glad someone finally said it. I would add that a Les Paul with coil tap could come reasonably close to a telecaster.
Good tone is boring. Nasty tone is better.
People who say that have never had the modeler and the amp it's attempting to model side-by-side.
I had the old Line 6 Floor Pod, and a JCM800. Line 6 nailed it, even with the old V2.0 technology.
What was the Pod run through? Was the JCM800 a combo, half stack, or full stack? Are you talking about the direct sound in the room, or the recorded tone through monitors?
Just because you play guitar well doesn't mean you sing well.
And vice versa.
Unpopular / controversy time! Hendrix is overrated and sounds weird. A great songwriter sure, his playing is 70% un-effing bearable. Turn off that univibe, freaking idiot.
He can't hold a candle to say, magic sam or lefty dizz. A joke.
Through a cheap solid state combo and recorded. The Line 6 definitely nailed that Marshall tone. I've lately rejected the "put Line 6 next to the real thing and see how they compare" thing, especially with Marahalls, since even two Marshals of the same model side-by-side can sound different. Add to that different speaker choices, cabinets, miking techniques, etc., and you're not going to get a perfect match in sound, ever.
If you can't change your own strings you shouldn't own a guitar.
what I expected...
The only reason Bruce Springsteen doesn't suck is because the bar has been lowered by hip hop & rap
"Waza" is Japanese for "Wazzup!!"
I can't stand the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, or Neil Young. I guess I respect what they did, but I won't/can't listen to them.
I need to practice more of playing less.
Bolt-on necks are better than set necks.
I'm embarrassed to pick up my guitars after they have been serviced at Lay's Guitar Shop in Akron. That shop kicks ass, and they always want me to play the guitar to check it out. Dude, I suck!
I'm an anti-snob, and I'm pretty snobby about it. I take pride in having off-brand or off-model stuff, as long as it's quality. It warms my heart when I jam with my buddy and he puts down his vintage Guild to play my $100 Yamaha 700S.
I secretly believe that most anti-snobs are snobs like I am.
I have no idea what I'm supposed to do with pedals.
