I didn't know if this would actually become a guitar or not so I am just now showing it as I am finishing it up. It is a heartpine body from 200+ year old wood. Had a lot of fun with this one. Still need to level and dress the frets, put some strings on it and do a setup.

Started by picking out the wood, getting it planed down and joining it.

Then I cut the body out and gave it this finish. Still not convinced I like it but it is what it is now.

That looks great! I probably would have just put clear on it as in the first pix above but nothing wrong with how you have got it now. Good job!

Thanks. I have done a couple with just clearing the pine body and love them. Just wanted to try something a bit different. Maybe it will sound god enough to make up for the lack of looks. haha

Very cool! Did you sandblast the body to create the ridges and dips between the early and late wood in the growth rings?

I have not weighed it yet. Feels like it's around 7-7.5 lbs.

No. I used a Dremel with a small ball end cutter.

I love the look. Really surprising. The tortie pickguard really dresses it up too.

Thanks. The tortoise shell pickguard was the only one that looked decent to me. I have done a body kind of similar to this once before and used a copper pickguard that I made. I wanted to go that route again but wanted to get it put together more than I did make another pickguard.

I like everything about this axe. The texturing is a great idea. You did that by hand with a Dremel? Wow... I think the tortoise shell pick guard looks appropriate. I can see where your original idea of a copper pick guard could look even better.

Will you be keeping the same color plastic over the pickups if you end up going with a copper pick guard?

Have you wired it in a standard way? I have a Dan Armstrong wiring diagram that I'm interested in trying. It sounds really interesting and useful. This is the link:

Anyway, your guitar looks really good in its current configuration. Great job!

If I ever decide to do the copper pickguard I will probably go with chrome covers. It is wired standard except for I build these custom Booth circuits to go on the volume pot. It has one of those installed with a 9 volt battery.

Finished up this guitar earlier today. Didn't like it much while building it but after playing it, it may be one of my favorites.
