My Snakehead build. I made every part you see here.
well, it's finished, but there is no finish on it. I think I'm going to pull it apart and do a clear lacquer finish on the body when I get time.
That’s awesome! What wood is that?
Sixteen years ago, rather than take a Saturday job in Waitrose, my daughter bought Squier strats for £50-£80, parted them out and sold the parts on eBay for £100-£150 guitar. She gained some practical and business skills, and could earn from a single guitar each month as much as she would earn working Saturdays in the supermarket. She bought one Strat for £25, the body had been badly handpainted butterscotch, so I started to strip it.
The base layer is Red, then there is a blue (handpainted) layer under that, finally a thick poorly applied butterscotch layer. I used paint stripper and a scraper to remove as much as I did. Someone has obviously used a blow torch at some point in the past as the cavities are badly burnt. I considered a fabric paisley finish at one point as it will need copious amounts of filler, but my current inclination is to just build a guitar with it as it stands. Then maybe I'll just put it back in the garage where it has sat for so long.
Best relic job ever!!!
I really want to get on with this. The bits have been in a box for three years now...
MiM neck, Guitarbuild swamp ash body, Bare Knuckle pickups. It'll be natural finish in Truoil, but every time I get enthusiastic about it it's way too cold out in the garage to work on the finish. So glad I'm not alone...
Glad you like it
6 Degrees outside, 9 in the garage, but 28.5 in my conservatory, do you think the wife would mind if.....
Same issue here but more along the lines of 6 degrees outside 4 degrees in the shed and no hope I’ll be able to do any finish work in the house. No, I’m afraid it’s amplifier and effects building weather for at least the next 4 months.
Will be finished if the humidity drops a little soon.
My Dano project. Had a cold wet winter here, so finishing became impossible. Gave up sanding/spraying over and over. Getting warmer now, so need to get back onto it.
Good God in Heaven. That flame. Looks like REAL flames.
Unfinished guitars? I have a few.
Vintage SG clone
Unknown hollow body
Lefty lp clone
Purple sparkle strat
Speaker guitar I am going to make into mini 335
I love this thing. Clear coat it and leave some hardware outside so it will match the quality. A pick guard covered in stickers would probably fit well.
Erm......one or two!
They're like regrets.
Not exactly “unfinished”. More like “not started yet”. Old 1936 Gene Autry Roundup guitar I found in the trash can. Looks like that neck has been played daily since Robert Johnson still drew breath. Hoping to use the neck, and my 30’s Snap On socket case for a resonator guitar. The old Supertone tag is in good shape so I’d like to stick that on there as well. Now to figure out how to cut a 5 1/2” circle in that old steel box...
So cool, just fix it, you know you want to
I'm waiting for this stuff to get older and my unfinished thread guitar about Koa Veneer Straty.
So close but so far. Needs to be finished again, again.
Couldn't make my mind up on this one.
Probably be nice some day
