While doing research for the cigar box uke build I came across a pdf from an old magazine on how to make an electric bass. Not exactly a P-Bass but too cool.

I didn't have a piece of wood long enough for the fingerboard and all my local hardware store had that was long enough was a door threashold. 1/4" thick by 1 1/2" wide and 36" long. Perfect except for the predrilled screw holes but that only add to the funky factor. 20180529_200346.jpg I drilled them out and plugged them with a dowel.

Cut them flush and sanded flat.

I had some pine laying around so I cut two pieces to length to use for the body. 20180530_014853.jpg
You can just barely make out the body outline.

That looks like the companion to the 1959 mechanix illustrated guitar I posted a couple years back.

I could definitely be happy with this. I pretty much live on the E and A strings, anyway (as most people do). In fact I could just do with an A string.

When it's finished I would like to hear you play "la poloma" and "when the saints go marching in" at your home or party jam session.

I know. It might be one string too many but the second string will come in handy if I want to play something flashy.

I had some time while I wait for the glue to dry on another project to do a little work on this one.
First step is to get the two pieces of pine nice and flat for the glue up.
That means the Corian sanding block and a good upper body workout. ;)
    20180620_111109.jpg
The basic technique I use is to mark the wood with colored chalk and sand until the chalk marks are gone. These blocks have pencil marks for the center line and the body outline so that will do.
    20180620_111332.jpg
Sand and check. Sand and check.
    20180620_112418.jpg
    Sand some more.
    20180620_113521.jpg
When the lines are gone the board should be flat amd true.

    Smear with Titebond.

And clamp. Glad I made these spool clamps a few years ago.
