Sad to see that quartersawn body covered up.
Yeah me too, a little, but I’m really digging this color. I can always build another!
Probably the best weather I’m gonna get for spraying clear coat here in Nashville.
Starting to get shiny!
That looks fantastic!! I love the color.
That color looks so good I can almost forget how beautiful this looked in nothing but shellac.
Is it loud yet?
Got the pickup rings in so I can start working on a pickguard design.
The pickguard has to be different than the standard ‘54 style for a few reasons:
1. This one has a much bigger round over than a ‘54
2. Different pickups that require more room
3. There is no control plate, like a ‘54
So I’m gonna see what I can come up with, taking these things in consideration, but still preserving the look of the ‘54 P pickguard
I think I like this. I’m thinking about smoothing out that notch on the bass side of the neck pickup
Ok I think I’ve come up with two that look good on this bass.
1 follows the classic 54 style a little closer, makes the Thunderbird pickups kinda look like an afterthought. But in a cool punky way.
2 integrates the pickups into the design and still keeps the 54 style, but looks a lot more modern overall. Maybe too modern?
Submitted to the future owner for approval.
Both look good but the second integrates a lot better in the overall look of the bass. Great build!
I think so too, and thank you! My friend picked out design 2, which makes me very happy. I’ll start working on the template for it soon, hopefully today.
I like the D better than the B.
I think you lost me on this one.
LOL, well, it seems the bit of the pick guard that is to the right of the neck pickup route resembles a certain anatomical feature profile that is usually classified by a letter...... I really do like the design!
lol that took me a minute
Fits the pickup ring pretty well...
And here we are. I’m leaving the neck pocket part blank for now. My plan is to trim it flush with the pocket on the body after the rest of it is done, so I can be sure there aren’t any weird gaps.
