Tort would be my first choice followed by Black.
Can I vote blackguard instead?
Black Pearloid on SB.. Works for me..
I looked at some tort but it's pretty common on lots of the Vintage offset Fenders..
I passed on it..
But then I came across this one.. Looks good to me ..
No red in this burst... makes a difference..
I like dark tort on white. This Tele even has matching tort binding.
Tortoise looks OK on Arctic White, a little bit, only. In every other instance it looks like vomit.
See an optometrist.
I did. 20/20 in the right, 20/16 in the left.
Ugly has nothing to do with eyesight though.
OP, I vote you ignore all opinions and form your own. My opinion is against Tort on Sunburst, for no actual reason than I don't like it. I like torts on solid colors only, mostly white. I don't like ketchup on hamburgers either, and I don't like coca cola very much, so consider that why doncha.
I never understood the 20/16 thing.
Like, if you're lower than 20, can you see inside your own head?
Haha! Reminds me of the one scene from Team America:
"Now I've seen it all"
"Have you ever seen a man eat his own head?"
"Then you haven't seen it all"
tortoise or aged white pearl would look cool on that ax!
20/20 means that at 20 feet, an object appears as clear as if it was 20 feet away; 16 means it's as clear at 20 feet as if it were 16 feet away.
I think that's how it works anyhow, it's better or something.
I say, "do it".
I have to strongly disagree here.
Tortoise is fugly ALWAYS on ANYTHING. It's never even a little bit OK.
It looks like something a cat barfed up.
I saw a white Strat once that had it, and I remember thinking "wow that actually isn't horrible." So a teeny bit, in that one instance.
But yeah, in general tort is vomitous.
I'm not big on mother of toilet seat either. It's OK for inlays, but no way on a pickguard.
Without glasses, I can't see past 5 feet.
But I have to take them off to read, and I can read 4 point type with zero problem.
So the near and far sightedness aspect has to be in that equation, doesn't it?
My perfectly wrong opinion is to go with the tort if it floats your boat. But, yes, do audition them to get a harmonious appearance to your taste. Just don't ask me to choose between tortoiseshell and MOTS.
As for the cat barf comment, I can say with fair experience that my cats have never produced anything to quite match tortoiseshell. Speaking of such things I would like to see more pickguards in what used to be called 'clown vomit', though they are best on a solid colour instrument.
I was gonna imply the same thing.
I'm not a cat person like you, but if I could find one that vomits like tort, I'll adopt him.
