OK, now this is officially a cliff-hanger or a jup-hanger......
? Whatever was hanging is dropped by now! All that’s left is bits and bobs: final setup, strap, etc. oh, and some nice pics, but I don’t know when the weather will cooperate for that. Light wet snow ATM...
Speaking of hanging, though, I'm trying to decide where to hang the front strap button. ES's generally have that button at the heel, but I don't really like that position for an electric guitar; it doesn't seen like it would hang nicely.
I put a block in the upper horn when I built it (actually, there's one in each horn instead of kerfing), so I COULD mount the pin there; any thoughts on whether or not I SHOULD?
Man, pawing through old pages to find this pic was a real trip in nostalgia! This part of the build was extremely fun: I felt like a REEL LOOTHYER! I think putting together the box was my favorite part of the whole project. Which reminds me though, I really gotta do something with all these jigs and forms...
Okay, well if you know any reason why I shouldn’t mount my strap pin here
KEEP IT TO YERSELF!
So I’ve been playing it for a while and I’m happy with that location for the strap pin, though it ain’t canonical. Rides pretty good. This sucker’s heavy, though!
I have a beautiful old Hondo ES335 I bought when I was a kid (more than 50 years ago!) and it is as heavy as the "Hobs of Hell!" A beautiful piece of gear but I'd never be able to stand and play it now. The strap button on it is behind the neck joint.................don't know if that's the standard place though.
Yeah, that’s the standard place, but when you go DPP, there are NO RULES!
It looks fantastic Jup. I hope it sounds as good as it looks.
thanks! As to sound, well, that's limited by the player, but it's built solid and Rob's PUs are sweet!
I have a Vox HDC-99, which as you can see sort of resembles the shape of a 335 (though different in most other respects), and it proudly sports a strap button in a location which is, I feel, far preferable to that round-the-back option. So I think you made the right call.
Wonderful my friend, well done! And the strap button is fine there, hate those on a neck plate!!!
Are you going to wear your "special" hat again for the demo (sorry, question mark buttion not functional)...
Weird, but it doesn't feel like this process has taken that long. I decided to go back and re-read everything. I'm only to page 35 - where I came across this thing of beauty.
I remember most of the steps not making sense when I first read them, but now.... well, I've been placing quite a few things in my online carts today.
You wear it out replying to stupid posts?????????????
Jup - looking forward to the hat video with the guitar background.
I gotta figure out how to play again first; I've been playing my Godin nylon string almost exclusively for the last year and change...
And I gotta find that hat.
Be careful, man! This rabbit hole is DEEP!
Someone told that guy that the definitive answer to the tonewood debate, with clear proof, was at the bottom of that pit?
Someone in my household who shall remain nameless spilled on the keyboard.... I'm too cheap to buy a new one.
We'd like to see an interpretive dance along with the demo as well.
Yeah, well, I'd like to see my hairline again, but here we are.
