    Sounds like a blues song...

This morning our town woke up to this trainwreck. 11 out of 37 cars derailed. Like really derailed. All six tracks being damaged. The town's main industry can't get their main product out the door. Train is their only option with the product being electrical transformers weighing like 300 tons or so.

Luckily no one was hurt. The locomotive seen here was not pulling the train, it was being pulled with the cars. The locomotive that pulled is about a quartemile away.

The rails, ties and ballast looks very bad for at least two tracks. Electrical wires and their poles are down. I guess the next southbound train will be very late.

The important thing is that no one was injured .

Those guys who work on keeping the tracks open do some amazing things, and in a hurry. I'm sure they are already on it. When I hauled heavy equipment I moved equipment into train rail repair sites several times. One time up around Madera I unloaded a loader, and they put me to running it until the operator got there and wouldn't let me leave for several hours.

I love America's "get 'er done" attitude. It's what makes us great!

The folks that keep the goods moving in the world live in a much different world than the ones who consume those goods. When I ponder my past, it is the days I mastered my heavy equipment hauling rig that I sailed the seven seas upon the highways and byways of this country. A new adventure every day! Now only dust on the shelf of my memory.

The pile is still untouched. The special investigation crew has just arrived. The railroad company says that from what they can see now, they will have to rip up three tracks for about a hundred yards and build from scratch, more or less.

Wow, big train wreck, asteroid skimming the earth, and my wife flying home from Italy today.
I'm not going to worry, these things happen to other people, right?
1/3 of the earth is on fire, 1/3 is in flood or earthquake damage, 1/3 is at war, uh, wait, that's all of us!
Lets hope nobody gets hurt dragging out all the wrecked train cars and fixing the tracks...

When I was a kid we all came home from a derailment with fantastic hunks of twisted metal.
