Thanks for this information....I'm looking on ebay and reverb.com and find the choices mighty slim for p90 specials, that aren't "vintage".

What's your budget? I see a few DC Faded models in the sub -$1000 range. You're right, there are mostly ones in the "historic" line on Reverb. If you have a little more scratch to spend, these are way cool.

Gibson did a Special reissue in the mid/late 70s, and I've heard rumors that they had a bunch of P90s left over from the 60s that ended up in these guitars.

My budget tops out at around $1200 right now. Would prefer a single-cut, must have chunky neck.

Oh, man! this guitar you sent is beautiful! I have a couple of guitars for sale right now....if they sell, then I can do it!

Whoops, sorry link was messed up at first. Yeah, those 70s special reissues are pretty rad, right? Reasonably priced too, IMO.

Good! take them all. Make a big demand, drive down the price of chunky necks!

Usually just a cosmetic issue, as I understand it. Not really an issue with a vintage guitar, IMO. Hope you find one that suits you. I'm digging mine big time.

Thanks! I have a Junior clone, and find that chunky neck and body size just fits me...very comfortable to play, and I love the p90...so am thinking a real Gibson, with 2 p90's might put me where I want to be ---for awhile.

So long as you avoid P-100s and can play first, you should be fine.

Also, don't forget Hamer Specials. Stick a scratchplate on and you're good to go.

    Great guitars.
The first Les Paul I ever played was a 56 Special.
I just missed a CS Special with factory Bigsby on CL.
    Doh!

This thread caught my eye because I've been looking at a Special but the one I like is 2015 model.
I'm particularly interested in this model because I don't want a pick-guard and I like the master vol/tone control location because I can handily do volume swells. Any knowledge on this one????Platefire

i could have bought a hamer special for about $400 awhile back - i didn't do it. and i've been kicking myself ever since. it is the best iteration of the "les paul special" ever made.

That's a great deal. I got mine for $450 USD iirc, but quite a while ago, around the turn of the century I think. Definitely over a decade ago.

I have a '92 single cut with two P90s, wraparound Badass bridge/tailpiece and bound fingerboard. Terrific guitar -- but heavy.
