Who goes on it? Must be primarily Telecaster players...

Danny Gatton; Bruce Springsteen; James Burton; Steve Cropper?

    or

Jimmy Bryant, Jimmy Page, Chrissie Hynde, Andy Summers?

    or

John 5, Brent Mason, Johnny Hiland, Arlen Roth?

Your turn. Tell me why I'm wrong, and why you're right.

This would pretty much be my lineup. Muddy Waters would be a good addition.

First of all, what are the criteria? We at TDPRI live in a Tele Bubble. The Telecaster has to be part of their fame, part of the reason they're well known, and an integral part of their sound.

What about the early pioneers of the Tele, such as Jimmy Bryant?

First, I nominate the man that started it all - Buck Owens. Without Buck, there's no Roy Buchanan, no Brad Paisley, no Albert Lee.

Next is Roy Buchanan. Without Roy, there's no '52 Reissue Telecaster (yes, I know that Roy played a '52). But Roy Buchanan was the only pro touring with an original blackguard, the blackguard Tele was part of who he was, and he was playing better than anyone else at the time. In 1971, a documentary about Roy Buchanan aired on public TV; it was called The Best Unknown Guitarist in the World. The title remains apt today.

After that it gets a bit more complicated. Who's the modern Tele man? Who's famous outside of guitar nerds for playing a Tele? Marty Stuart? Albert Lee? Vince Gill? Stuart and Lee are not as well-known outside of guitar circles. Vince is more famous for other things than a Tele. My vote goes for Brad Paisley. The Tele is integral to his image, his sound, and his fame.

That leaves one. Now it gets really tough. Keith Richard? He's certainly known far and wide as a Tele man. So is Bruce Springsteen, but apart from guitar nerds, he's known more for his songs and singing. It has to be Jimmy Bryant.

Keith Richards, Chrissie Hynde, Vince Gill, Bruce Springsteen. Have to include a female on that Mountain, the Telecaster has had a role in a lot of great and talented ladies.

Actually, there aren't enough mountains in the US to honor the Tele players worthy of the tribute.....plus, shouldn't Leo himself be up there?

    Uh, OK.
So, even though Canada doesn’t have a Mt. Rushmore, I’m nominating these Canadian guys.

Ed Bickert, Amos Garrett, David Wilcox (the Canadian one), Robbie Robertson, and Redd Volkaert!
    Too many again, I guess.
Canada is bigger, so they get 5.
