Today's the last day of classes. I've been saying goodbye to kids all day, signing yearbooks. The seniors are gone, but they honored me by inviting me to speak at their graduation. Our superintendent came in this morning (his daughter's in my class) and signed my yearbook. Tomorrow is last day for staff: I'll go to our end-of-the-year meeting, finish grading a few "stragglers"' papers, turn in my grades, say some goodbyes to my colleagues, turn in my keys and go home.

Changing careers, I turned 40 in teaching school. I've loved almost every minute of my time here--18 years--and in the three schools before that, my first six years. It might not really hit me until September, but I'm retired now. This is going to be great!

Congrats on a great career. I come from a family of teachers and its so much more than a job. Its a vocation you're called to do.

Enjoy your summer and good luck with the transition next September.

I retired 9 years ago after 31 years in the classroom. The last week of school was a little weird knowing I'd be turning in my keys forever. Retirement is great though and I've never regretted it, but I have stuff to do to keep myself occupied. Retirement weeks go by way faster than work weeks. Retirement years go way faster than school years. That's the only drawback...:) Best of luck in your new endeavor!

Congrats. Most people that were happy in their careers and life before retirement are happy and successful in retirement.

I can't help but think of the young people you might have inspired.

Based on the tread title I would have guessed it was Marlowe.

Wow. It's the middle of June and they are still in school?

When do the first and second semester start in that district?

My mom taught or was a librarian for over 30 years. She loved going back every Sept. Even 20 years after she retired she still kept up with education and you could still see her getting a little excited when schools were about to start up every fall

That's what I say! School starts the day after Labor Day, second semester around the end of January. We're all pretty well baked by the first of June, but have to stay past the middle. . . .

But it's all over now, Baby Blue!

You do know that in six months you'll be wondering how you ever found time to go to work.

    Enjoy the future.
