I see a lot of Centaur clone owners here, but unless I completely missed it, no dedicated club yet.

It seems there are at least a half dozen serviceable clones out there, probably a lot more.

I'm in with a BYOC Silver Pony. Didn't think I'd ever feel like I got a deal paying $100 for a dirt box! LOL :)

I also build my own. Went with a different kit though than the BYOC, and I split the drive gain control to give it a bit more tweakability, and of course, made my own graphics:

Using a Wampler Tumnus Deluxe and used an EHX Soul Food before that...

    Well, I got three now!
I got the EHX Soul Food not long after they came out, TBH I didn't know what a Klon was from a TS sound wise, never heard one that I knew of. Then I saw a review of the Tone Bakery Creme Brulee', snagged one at a good price and used that for awhile. I heard that it was "klonish" but not a true klone. Just last week I picked up a used JRockett Archer just to see if I could hear a difference between the three.
I spent a little while tweaking them together, and I do like the Archer the best though it could be the honeymoon too.

Initial test on the (who makes the Klone anyway?) is positive. Warm, gritty, can’t wait to A/B with my bandmate’s KTR (which I like). I need to CRANK IT UP!

    J. Rockett Archer "Ikon" with the "Ikon" scuffed off. Not sure what that makes it now. I do like the tone with my set up. Usually have the Bogner Blue and Archer stacked with a touch of reverb or delay. Works well with the Tele.

Was rocking mine with a Strat, seems to like single coils.

I have the VFE Mermaid. Like it a lot but it's the only Klon type pedal I've ever owned so can't compare it. I also own the Standout and the Rise & Fall.

    I’ve had the following:
    Ohmless Lorena
    EHX Soul Food
Soul Food JHS meat + 3
    archer Ikon

The Ohmless is a great pedal. It was a custom job (different case with custom colors but same PCB) for a charity thing so I can’t sell it probably and I love it too much to do so.
The EHX soul Food dropped the bass quite a bit I thought and didn’t sound as good as the Lorena so I returned it.
I was curious so I got the JHS aversion and it sounded better and nearly identical to the Ohmless.
    So I returned that too.
Curiosity again prompted me to buy the Ikon. It sounds fantastic and maybe most like a Klon (I have no idea) but a slightly different character than the Ohmless. Tighter, cleaner sound I think (I gave up trying to do a meaningful A/B). Ohmless maybe more throaty (?). I like them both and will swap them out on my board many more mites I’m sure. The archer does take up less space. Feels like a brick.

Sounds good LOUD! So touch sensitive, granted it was just through my AC 10, but what a sound. My Strat, Supro Sahara and parts Tele just love it! Still waiting to know the manufacturer...
