I see where you're coming from, while appreciating your transparency and no I am not trying to do all those mean awful, cruel, unsportsmanlike provocative, low down, openly hostile, ham-fisted, juvenile, rude and disrespectful things, here on the hippest guitar forum in the vast reaches of cyber space. I do believe that you are perhaps reading my post myopically
I am amused by getting such a rise out of you the arbiter of the boundaries of acceptable/unacceptable posts on the site.
I hope that posting your reply gave you a rush of momentary satisfaction.
Let me put this another way.
I like Art Neuvo, and have grown tired of Rococo, Queen Anne furniture, and still enjoy Bau Haus influenced Socialist Realism in post-revolutionary Russian art and graphic design.
And no, just because I like poached chicken, and say so does not insinuate that those that prefer breaded deep fried chicken are now as decerning as I am. The deep fat frying gives me heart burn and noxious gas , though I love the smell of most deep fried foods
And this is my unvarnished response to your demeaning and cruel reply, amounting to an attempt at public shaming.
Have a wonderful weekend and be safe.

Sorry you felt the need to go to all that trouble..in the end there is no right or wrong except what each
person has a preference for, with that I apologies to
one and all,you have certainly put me in my place
and very eloquently I might add. With that I shall leave tdpri......best wishes to all.

I love angry crotchety posts with no room for compromise - just say it like you see it - and I HATE freakin sunburst. So this thread made my day.

I love sunburst, but that doesn't mean I like it on any guitar and in any variation of sunburst.

Wow - I'm pretty surprised how much this thread has polarised opinions on the forum ...
It's probably best that I don't ask how folks feel about relicing sunburst finishes :0)

Time for a little humour, methinks. Apologies if I've posted this before on TDPRI. A few years ago, I sold an amp on ebay and the buyer phoned me to confirm he was happy with everything. We had a nice long chat about GAS in general and he said he gets around his wife's disapproval of having too many guitars by ONLY buying them in sunburst, keeping two at a time in the living room and the rest hidden away in cases. As his wife thinks that 'they all look the same', he fools her into believing he's only got two by rotating the collection!

    Chemobrain,

In the future, pay strict attention to the dosing instructions on the cough syrup label. However, this was a fun thread.

I have never owned a sunburst finish guitar but I have a hankering for a beat up 50's Strat in sunburst. I think if I could afford a Custom Shop model I'd get one of those. There's something iconic about a sunburst Strat, just like a BSB blackguard Tele.

There are colors I find my h more offensive than bursts, though:

    - Candy Apple Red
    - Midnight Blue (purple-ish)
    - Wine Red/Burgundy
    - Antigua - I know it gets beat up a lot, but for good reason!

Certain styles of sunburst remind me of cheap cowboy guitars from my childhood. Three-color bursts really don't appeal to me, but I do like a subtle honeyburst or tobacco-burst.

I agree 100% Queen Anne furniture is completely over the top; it insists on itself. Also re the fried chicken. I love it, it definitely doesn't love me. I'll BBQ up a chicken though, any day of the week and it agrees with me quite well.

...Now what were we talking about?

I hate vintage sunbursts on teles but like it on strays and LPs. Can't stand cherrybursts on anything except Hummingbirds. Lately flametops have really turned me off, except on ukuleles.

I love sunbursts!! What's not to like? Except the silver ones. And some blue ones. A friend of mine has a turquoise burst, it looks like a tropical lagoon; I like that one. I fell in love with sunbursts in High school, while listening to the Layla album over and over and staring at the album cover. Oh yes, someday it will be mine...

To me, sunburst finishes are kinda like kids. I really only like mine, but I guess I can tolerate yours.

I'd like a two tone sunburst. Keep the red or let it fade.

On a public forum a couple of things to keep in mind:

    1. It's best to never start a "rant" about something you hate when pretty much everyone else likes it.
    2. It's a good idea to always personalize YOUR feelings and don't apply them to everyone else just because YOU feel that way.
    3. You might not want to title your rant in such a way that you tick off everyone that sees the title
    4. When other members push back on your rant, it's time for you to immediately pull back and recognize that others are not wrong just because they feel differently than you
    5. As always, common courtesy toward fellow members goes a LOOOONG way

PS. I'm a year younger than the OP, so I understand crotchety. But age is no excuse. At least that's what my wife tells me.
