saw them at a disco on LI in about 1984. They set up right on the floor, under the disco ball and pick and red neon lights. Weird place for them, but it was great.
Saw them in Boston in around '86 or '87. It was a great time for seeing jangly melody-driven bands w/o having to fork out much dough.
Saw them open for Squeeze at Bates College in Lewiston, Maine in 1988. Their big hit at the time was "Amplifier"... great show.
Saw them open in 1984 for REM in a club in Houston when they were touring for "Reckoning". Great bill with both of those bands on it.
But, Chris Stamey was gone from the band by that time, unfortunately.
That was probably Numbers night club. Great venue that is still going.
The REM show was before my time, but I did see Ministry and Front 242 there. The show you mentioned is listed here.
Gabe's Oasis in IC back in the day ... still have Like This on vinyl and Spy in the House on iPhone ...
Yep, it was Numbers. I also saw Madness there the year before.
"The Sound of Music" is a classic.
My older brother gave me a tape with "Amplifier" that he made while at college. Unlabeled... it took me about 10 years to find out who the band was
My old band Town Cryers played Gabe's Oasis back in September 1990 on our Get Your Kicks On Route 66 tour. Great club! As I remember it was a Tuesday...and $1 pitchers. Local band The Dangtrippers put us up for the night.
I reckon I was prolly there ...
