Carving the neck is also quite satisfying.

I think I announced the making of the last template somewhere before.. well, Im still missing the pickguard, which has a 45 degree bevel and thus has to be routed.

Here is a roughly cut paper pattern on the blank, I used this pattern to compare the CAD design of the pickguard against the as built locations of the bridge, neck joint and control plate and body contours as seen in the previous post.

Made some measurements and modifications and printed a fresh one. I have found that a glue stick does a better job than liquid glue when gluing paper on mdf.

After working out the bubbles with a sanding block, it was time for the fretsaw

Since I know by now that I cannot saw square to the work, I leave a bit of margin to be sanded off with a sanding block.

I made some 12 gauge entry holes to clear the path for the next task on hand.

I think a 24 1/2 scale would have been perfect for this,my favorite couch guitar :D

Wow dude. This is looking phenomenally good. What was the finishing process on the body?

I did the brown to amber burst with stain and then french polished. I decided not to use pumice and did manage to fill the pores just fine with shellac only. The body has a kind of an old world quality to it, the finish not being flat and perfect just adds to that vibe. Just like when old nitro has sunk a fair bit.

Love the idea of the bevels and the offset body shape. Any idea how much weight the bevels took off the overall weight?

I did not weigh it before and after, but if I assume that the body lost about 5% of it’s volume, then it would be about 3 ounces.
